I've been surprised at the classic enemies missing from both SMO and BotW. I don't believe it's some weird co-ordinated effort: BotW's were likely omitted because they wanted to concentrate on those present (and the Wii U's grunt only allowed for so much), and SMO's just weren't fun enough. Nonetheless there are high-profile omissions from both.

In short: yes, bring on the Boos. Image

I really like the spooky boo levels and wish there was something better in there than that opening level.

Progress report- 339 Moons and one other thing

I've just left the Luncheon Kingdom and ended up somewhere that totally took me by surprise. :o Really cool. The Snow Kingdom was good. Dont mind that it was a little smaller and made up of more traditional Mario levels. Even if they were a little brief. I really am enjoying how the worlds change. The racing as Goron Link was a lot of fun. However I quickly forgot about it in the wake of the amazing Seaside Kingdom. Clearly the best Mario Sunshine level ever made. Cracking boss fight. My only real issue is that I wish the land part of it had more platforming to do. Other then that it was delight. Then came the Luncheon Kingdom. Not sure what else I can say but I am just enjoying it all. I got to be meat. Boss fight again was fab. I found a castle among some green fields and a thing that wasnt a moon. That jingle. :toot:

Then that bit happened and I ended up somewhere that seems very un-Mario like. Looking forward to exploring it. :D

That thing is one of the great moments in gaming, no qualification required. Thank you for making me recall it! :D

It really is great. It's been no go to game since I finished the main story, some of the repeated moons and the shitty races are a bit rubbish but every now and then you get something really great.

So this was a little underwhelming. Not because of what was there but more for what wasn't. I wasn't expecting a massive new Kingdom but I'd have liked more then that. The boss fight though was chuffing great. Loved it.

Then came the Bowser Kingdom. Which felt more like an extended 3D world level to me and all for the better. Loved the aesthetic (the fun fair from 3D world was better though 8-) ) but did feel it could have been a bit trickier. I'm sure the final stages of previous entries have been a little more complex but god damn being that Kirby bird thing was wonderful. I keep mentioning the boss fights but I feel I have to because they are soooo spot on. Then moved on to the Moon Kingdom. The physics were an ace touch and it was quite nice to have a moment of calm before the very end. As for the end.......... flipping heck. :o  :D :toot:  When I realised I had to be Bowser.   So cool. Only thing I didnt like was the music in the final section. Personally I found it really jarring. Garish. Out of place and more then anything else distracting. Enough so that it killed my buzz. :(

Nothing topped multiple cat Bowser though. Christ that still makes me laugh.

Really looking forward to seeing what the blocks do. Plenty left to find I'm sure. :toot:

Aw, the music is absolutely what makes that bit! It’s just so darn anime. Sorry you didn’t like it, at least you enjoyed the rest!

What? Do you not like vocal songs bigging up big action scenes? Or is it just the cheesy lyrics that - to use a comment from Youtube - had the power of anime?
It's good you enjoyed the game, despite that small buzzkill.

Yep the music is straight up phenomenal in that sequence!

The soundtrack to the game in general is just mind blowing with so many good tunes: Cascade Kingdom, Wooded Kingdom, Jump Up Superstar, Break Free - it's all fantastic stuff!

Break Free from the end sequence also has a line that basically sums up my thoughts on the game as a whole:

"A miracle in three dimensions"

Fair enough.

I had no problem with the festival section. In fact it was wonderful. But here it didn't do anything for me. Its not quite the right word for it but I found it rather saccharine. I have this issue at times with films where it just turns me off. It also gave me horrible flashbacks of shitty Sonic songs. :dread: But I know people like this sort of thing so I can see what they were doing.

For me I didn't feel like it was capturing how I felt in that moment and it was forcing me to feel something I wasn't going to. There wasn't a sense of urgency or jeopardy. Neither did it enhance the grandeur or action. Also I think it lost that unconscious link between music and movement that had been built up during the stages before. Oh by the way that little 2D bit  Maybe I should replay it...... I don't even know if I can actually because you don't have access to a list of levels like you did in SM64/Sunshine (something I may go on to really dislike about Odyssey actually)

I think I would have been fine with it in the end credits actually. But in that moment it just didn't work for me.

I've just about found everything in the first post Bowser Kingdom and decided to head back to the Cap Land (in SM64 outfit :o) were I noticed I could buy moons in a group of 10. I did thinking that must be all of them but it seemed like there was more. Is there no end to them on sale? If so WTF kind of idea is that?

It’s so you can get to 999 moons. There are 883 moons to collect (I think it’s 883 anyway) and then you can top the rest up by buying to get to the Odyssey limit of 999. It’s a bit pointless but there you go.

But there is a small surprise for the player in reaching 999...

Ah ok. They must have run out of barrel to scrape then. :P

Spent 10 mins yesterday getting moons from Toadette

It's so you can get through the game even if you're really bad isn't it?

Ahhh. A Jawa shop.

Over 600 moons now. Still having masses of fun. The new stages are really good. I am so happy to see the silver pipes. The one with the wind that blows cappy. :o 8-) My only worry with these is that so many of the ideas don't get developed with follow up levels because...... there is a hell of a lot of filler moons. Some are not so bad. I quite like finding Peach and the music Toad is a nice touch (how awesome is it that you can just put on any music btw?) But a lot of the just get changed ones are shite. I really like the Koopa races and using the moveset to make massive shortcuts. The one in the Lake. :datass:

I'm working my way back through Kingdom by Kingdom. I've not been to the extra ones yet beyond that one and yes I looked up in 1st person. :D

Reflex action for all us veterans. Love that they did that; sliiiiiiightly disappointed that it didn’t have a mini-level behind it.

In fact the whole of that post-game world left me feeling slightly cold. Like the game’s hitting us around the head with a big ol’ nostalgia mallet, going, ‘DO YOU RECOGNISE THE HOMAGE YET!? DO YOU!?’
