Super Mario Odyssey, meanwhile, was a smash hit for Nintendo. Its sales actually weren't far off those of Assassin's, and yet Mario is a Switch exclusive.

Odyssey is the Nintendo Switch's biggest game launch to date (beating Zelda: Breath of the Wild at the console's launch) and the sixth biggest Nintendo launch of all time in the UK. Its launch sales are higher than any game launch on Wii U.

Just Dance 2018 charted in 23rd, meanwhile. Of all the formats it launched on, it sold best on Wii. Yes, the original Wii. (Followed by Switch, Xbox One and then Wii U.)

It’s incredible that the Wii, with the right type of game, can still be a player six years after the system was virtually dead at retail. People still have Wii’s setup... I do, too :toot: .

GTA 5 still hanging in there. Amazing really that it's still selling on a regular basis. Still, one of those games I never bought myself.

Maybe the rest decided to grab Disgaea 5.

I’m a little surprised at how well Kart Deluxe has sold. I guess it’s a combination of gamers who missed out on the U version and the U owners buying it again.

Disgaea 5 is a great game. Long and hard and intricate, a huge timesink, not something I've found time to finish :shifty: , but great.

Ah to be fair I think it's also because Kart 8 was such a strong game, the best since Kart 64 in my opinion. It definitely has the legs of a long term best seller but yeah the poor Wii-U sales have a large part it too.

I'm surprised Odyssey only made it as the 6th best Nintendo launch. What were the others? There seems to be a buzz around Odyssey that few Nintendo games have had in the past.

Just read the replies on Eurogamer's comments section for that article. Wished I hadn't. :dread:

There are some right wankers who frequent that place. So glad GRcade is a thing. So glad.

There was a fair amount of criticism for Nintendo not including 1-2 Switch as a pack in but from a business decision, it's sold over 1.37m and theyve had no trouble shifting Switches.

Good to see Splatoon 2 doing well again. It's got to be considered a core Nintendo franchise now.

I wonder what the sales numbers are for Mario + Rabbids? I’ve read that it is the best-selling non-Nintendo published game on Switch, but I can’t trace figures. I hope it has done well as that may persuade Ubi to continue with that kind of thing rather than doing bare-bones ports like Rayman.

I read in the comments section on that the eurogamer article that the weekly sales figures don’t include online store sales. Which will surely soon make these figures a bit redundant as more and more people download titles. I assume if you say buy a code from amazon that it’s included and just not say buying directly from the e shop although it could be both.

Also it’s good that odyssey has sold well in its first week in the U.K. Nintendo has never really been at home in the uk, for some reason it’s always been accepted more in continental Europe. Hopefully things are starting to change a little.

Aren't these figures just for physical copies too and don't take digital sales into account?

Still, for a single platform title to take the number 2 spot behind a multi-platform title is amazing.

But who the hell is still buying GTA V anymore? How does everyone not own at least one copy now?
