I can see them more as an unlockable, with the costumes of Mario characters as their coloured outfits.

I'd hate it if rabbids made it in. 3 Mii fighters are bad enough as is.

From a design point of view, it doesnt feel like you would put an assist in for someone you're considering as playable. Better to spend that time elsewhere, and get more representation.

However a lot can change during development, so I wouldn't rule anything out. A character who seemed like a good assist in the 2016 design phase could suddenly be prime playable material in 2019 DLC discussions! These dates are chosen at random.

I'm waiting for Peach Rabbid, with selfie-based battle mechanics, to be revealed as the new third party rep.

I think it's been basically confirmed that if a character is an assist then they aren't becoming playable.

So Idk when, but the Smash Ultimate Gamecube controllers were up on the Nintendo Store some time this weekend. Already sold out unfortunately. The new adapters are still available though last I checked.

One thing I think we may see fill out the roster is an awful lot of Echo Fighters. Surely they wouldn't make it a thing if they were only three right? Daisy, Dark Pit and Lucina?

Easy ones to imagine...

Sonic - Shadow (indeed Knuckles has appeared as an assist trophy when it was Shadow last time. Hmm....)
Ryu - Ken
Cloud - Zack
Spring Man - Ribbon Girl
Diddy Kong - Dixie Kong
Samus - Dark Samus
Snake - Raiden
Pac-Man - Ms. Pac-Man

Yeah I noticed that too it's pretty annoying, dunno if they're exclusive to the Nintendo store but nowhere else I've looked has them up for preorder. I've still got one of those white gamecube controllers they released for Brawl with the longer cable in good condition so that'll do.

Do you mean 4?

I don't understand why people think there are going to be so many echo fighters, let alone a lot of 3rd party ones. Dark Samus would be a nice addition (though 2 'dark' characters would be a little silly lol) but the rest in that list seem unnecessary. Dixie is a completely different character from Diddy with her own moves in her own game so Idk why so many people think she'll be an echo. Isn't Ken supposed to be quite different from Ryu now as well?

Ryu and Ken have (with the exception of a few games) the same exact base move sets but with different properties. They are what the concept of clone characters originated from.

I feel like they introduced the category of Echo Fighters because a lot of people complain about 'clone characters', since they feel like any standalone character should always have a unique moveset to be worth their spot.

However if a character is presented as an Echo Fighter, there is no expectation of them to be all that different to the character they're based off. They'll be treated as a glorified skin/alternate palette. People complain about Dark Pit, but not Alph or the Koopa Kids.

I feel like the roster is huge enough to not need filling out, and we'll surely be getting a few new DLC characters, but we'll see if we see a barrage of echo fighters.

Aren't the Koopa Kids all grouped into the one character, though? They're all different costumes for Baby Bowser, not totally separate characters with identical movesets.

Correct. Same with Alph. They are alternative costumes.

That's my point.

People are critical of Dark Pit because he's a separate character and not categorised as a costume, or in future as an 'echo'. He's near-identical to Pit. However, Alph and the Koopa Kids escape criticism because they are filed under the same character, even though virtually the same effort was put into them. They would have designed different character models all the same. Dark Pit/Lucina only get additional 'Congratulations' screens or whatever.

Not saying that's all there is to it, but that's partly it.

They released one for Brawl that just had the normal Nintendo GameCube logo written in the middle. The one they had for 4 had a Smash Bros logo.

But Brawl was on the Wii, which had GameCube ports.

They made a white cube controller for brawl.

If I remember correctly they are noteworthy for having a 3 metre long wire.

Think they were just released for gamecube games to be played on Wii generally and not tied in for Smash but w/e, they came about around the same time. Intended only for Japan but amazon and other places online sold them.

I remember looking for GC controllers a few years ago and getting one, not knowing how particularly good they were. Along with the long wire apparently they tend to have better control sticks. It was great up until it broke 2 years later (fine lifespan, just a shame I haven't had as good a controller since).

I, We, Waluigi: a Post-Modern analysis of Waluigi by Franck Ribery

Waluigi is the ultimate example of the individual shaped by the signifier. Waluigi is a man seen only in mirror images; lost in a hall of mirrors he is a reflection of a reflection of a reflection. You start with Mario – the wholesome all Italian plumbing superman, you reflect him to create Luigi – the same thing but slightly less. You invert Mario to create Wario – Mario turned septic and libertarian – then you reflect the inversion in the reflection: you create a being who can only exist in reference to others. Waluigi is the true nowhere man, without the other characters he reflects, inverts and parodies he has no reason to exist. Waluigi’s identity only comes from what and who he isn’t – without a wider frame of reference he is nothing. He is not his own man. In a world where our identities are shaped by our warped relationships to brands and commerce we are all Waluigi.
