Echoes are same franchise. Also, it's going to be an echo of Palutena, Pac-man, Robin, Shulk, Bowser Jr., Duck Hunt, Ryu, or Cloud

What would be the echo from duck hunt? A clay pigeon?

No thanks, given that he's been in every game so far. :slol:

I must say on the Incineroar chat, I'd be quite happy for no more Pokemon to grace Smash Brothers for the time being - Pichu, Pikachu, Charizard, Ivysaur, Squirtle, Mewtwo, Lucario, Greninja, Jigglypuff is more than enough for me.

Same with Fire Emblem, there are plenty of them.

Pokemon is Nintendo’s biggest franchise outside of Mario so I think the representation is fair, especially when 3 of the Pokemon you’ve named fall under Pokemon Trainer. And at least they’re all fairly varied. I think one new rep a generation is fair.

Totally agree on Fire Emblem though. It’s way over represented for the numbers the series does and for how distinct the characters are.

It is bizarre that they won't budge from one when it comes to F-Zero, given how easy it'd be to just pick another character. Even Earthbound has two.

Brawl was the time it needed to happen I think. F-Zero GX wasn’t that long ago when they made Brawl. Now it’s a series without a new entry in 15 years and there’s no particularly iconic character to select anyway.

I think Earthbound benefits from bias from Sakurai because he likes those games and there is obviously the Hal connection.

Plus the newcomers this time round seem to be much more driven by popularity in the fan base, influenced by the ballot no doubt. I think there are a lot of characters higher up in the list than a new F-Zero rep.

Tl;dr: Nintendo make us a new F-Zero

My guess a character a month, then a load in the inevitable Smash Direct.

I recon 8-10 more characters but most of them will be echoes.

At this point, I think the final 2 characters are Ken and Incineroar but what they will do is fully roadmap their DLC plans in the inevitable November Smash Direct.

I think it’ll be a season pass and they’ll confirm some of the characters they’re working on, which will include Springman + echo and Rex + Pyra (because their games were released too late in the development cycle to get in the main game) and some third party reps. I don’t think they’ll reveal everything but enough to lessen the blow of how underwhelming a final reveal of Ken/Incineroar would be-which let’s be fair, it would be, after the announcements they’ve had so far.

But surely they aren't building to a poor reveal? Sakurai has absolutely NAILED it thus far, surely they would have left K Rool for later if they thought that was going to be the case.

Honestly, Falco and Kazooie's personality types aren't too far removed, the latter perhaps having more of a sardonic wit in her snark

Perhaps the announcement of those two characters will be part of a bigger reveal of, say, a big adventure mode or some other big singleplayer or even multiplayer aspect.

That’s why I think they’re going to roadmap the DLC and it’ll include some big third party reps. People won’t mind waiting if they know big characters are coming with DLC and it’ll basically instantly sell a season pass.

Plus they’ve still got the single player to reveal which will be the main focus of the final Direct I think.

I can see another Smash Direct happening next month, either mid or late October. Seems like Sakurai really wants to reveal everything he can before it releases, making me assume there could be potential for a demo for testfire like event happening closer to release.

You are of course correct that Brawl was the right place for Black Shadow, and I know the reason for no follow up F-Zero games is down to the fact that sales of GX weren’t as high as anticipated. But then again it was on one of Nintendo’s lowest selling consoles - you’d think they would’ve tested the water with a new one on the Wii or Wii U already. :(

I don’t know if you’re aware but they actually tried to get Critereon to make one for the Wii U. It didn’t work out obviously but at least there is still some appetite there to make another, even if it’s not longer with an internal team.

I think I speak for a lot of us when I say we’d all be happy enough if they took a HD brush across F-Zero GX and added online play though.
