Amazon are selling the download code for 55 pounds. If I purchased this today (ie before the double coins promotion ends), will I get the double coins promotion, or is that only if you pay through the my Nintendo portal?
Thanks!

I haven't bought the game myself, kaza', but it may be worth noting thst you can get a download key for £49.99 at CDkeys.

Your a star Jawa, cheers for the heads up. I do have Amazon credit, but I can always put that towards my next reckless purchase.
My suspicion is that the 3rd party codes will not give any points upon purchase, but if they do, i will be picking it up imminently (using your link).

Edit - this link https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/My-N ... 51068.html suggests I will be entitled to gold points totalling at least 5%.

Online matchmaking is a bit toss, isn't it? I've had mine set to 1on1 for the past five or six matches, and each one has just been a regular 4-player match.

Do you mean that is no good to play in handheld? Because that would be disappointing.

Did consider throwing my Switch off the bridge on the way home from the shop.

Funnily enough that tweet is from a random UK Melee player I've met a couple of times before. Well, not exactly random since he's like a community figure and an organiser for one of the biggest smash tournies in Europe, but still funny to see that tweet blow up so much.

Friend code is SW-4349-2089-2211 - got Ultimate along with MK8 Deluxe. Looking forward to playing with you guys.

Enjoying this a lot! Played some local coop online (and won about 80% woo) and some more of the single player spirit mode. Great version of smash.

Would be up for joining a GRcade room tonight if anyone's about?

I might be online from 9pm tonight so I'll join if there's a room open.

Hey Aaron. Me and Banjo may be about later on tonight if it lets guests play online.

I don't have an online sub. No real intention of getting one right now either.

Cancel that then, I thought it was still free.

Can I get one and just use it on someone else's Switch? I'm reliably informed that I'll be in posession of my own console sooner than I thought...

Picked this up just now. I don't have online at the moment though, and I was terrible on the last iteration. There is a free trial available though right? I may check that out nearer Xmas when I have some time off work (and have had got to grips with it).
If anyone wants to do a family sub thing though, let me know and I will get on board with it

Knowing Nintendo it'll probably be tied to the system it's activated on.

Any tips for an absolute noob? Changed jump to B because anything else feels like madness.

The 'how to play' video that pops up when you leave the title screen idle for a while is a good start. It's also accessible elsewhere, in the vault I think.

Good that you're using buttons to jump. Some people use the stick to jump and that's fine, but it's easier imrpovement-wise if you're using buttons.

There is a lot to take in, but you'll absorb it all in good time just through playing and watching what other players do. The tips that pop up during loading screens are great too.

Definitely change up the controller setup to make it feel comfortable for yourself. I have jump on A and X, attack on B and Special on Y. Basically that makes the button layout similar to a GameCube pad, which my mind default too with Smash.

Try and practice getting the difference between a Tilt and Smash attack (directional standard attacks, a Tilt means you're nudging the control stick in a direction, Smash is a full on push in that direction). Tilts aren't as powerful but they're faster and better to catch opponents with. You can also use the right stick for Smash attacks which can be useful.

Try some low intensity Classic runs with characters. Find a character that feels 'right' for you and then practice your basics from there. From here you can apply what you learn to other characters. I think someone like Bowser or DK is good to start with; they're big heavy characters so any hits you connect with should feel meaty, plus they're heavy enough that it will take a while for opponents to knock you off stage permanently, giving you more time to learn and adapt.
