Didn't watch all the direct as I was at work and now that I'm home I can't be arsed sitting through a reel of assist trophy/items - they're neat an' all but I'm fine with them being a surprise I encounter in-game.
I approve of pretty much all the character announcements. I've always called for a Castlevania rep and said Simon (or Alucard) would make the most sense. The new game modes sound great.
As for talk of single-player modes, I loved Subspace the first time around. As is often said, the bosses/cutscenes are the highlights. It's a good showcase of what's in the game. It's clearly flawed and was not too appealing on re-playthroughs, but yeah, it had its moments and was refreshing. Co-op is still a good laugh though.
Melee's Adventure mode is more replayable, but it has the benefit of being a lot shorter. Still, it's tight, varied and can be approached in a lot of different ways thanks to the game's mechanics. Edit: Not that it doesn't have its own flaws of course - a mode like it these days should be modernised a bit.
