Not sure why anyone is surprised by this. The associations voting for Blatter are just as corrupt as FIFA. The events of the past few days will have only strengthened their resolve to keep him in his post - after all, if you know there are those sniffing around your corrupt organisation, who do you want at the top: the man who's kept a lid on it all so far (and who stands to lose as much as you if it all goes tits up); or a man vowing to bring you down and expose you?

Can't see anyway that will happen.

I'll be surprised if anything other than a few strong words comes of this.

Get ready to be suprised.

Ah a DML prediction

Betting my house on the exact opposite happening ;)

I think at this point, something HAS to give. It may not be Blatter, but it could certainly be UEFA or one of these World Cups. This is no longer just about football federations, the FBI are involved, and its already been reported that a warrant has been requested for Blatter as part of another invesitgation. I don't think the status quo can remain.

But again, if anyone can be teflon, its FIFA.

Qatar on the other hand, sheer lunacy!

Agreed, I don't like the regime in Russia but can see why they would get a World Cup.

Qatar is stupid no matter how you look at it in every single way except for money in brown envelopes.

I don't see UEFA pulling out of FIFA though, Russia obviously wouldn't want to at the moment and it looks like France and Spain support Blatter.

You don't need everyone to say yes to pull out, and the majority is a massive one.

What Qatar don't have:

Existing football infrastructure
Large football-supporting population
Respectable history of playing football
Large population
Accommodation and attractions for tourists
Acceptable human rights record
Appropriate climate

What Qatar do have:

£££

Well, still looks like nothing interesting will come off all this. Sadly the fans who claim they hate FIFA and Blatter will go to the events, sponsors won't pull out and at most a few nobodies will be arrested.

Grey Dyke is saying he's considering a boycott of the world cup, if other European countries join in.

That majority might be massive when it comes to voting against Blatter, leaving FIFA would be a different story, especially with big nations like France and Spain against it!

I just see the boycott as all talk from Platini.

This is the guy who voted for Qatar to host the World Cup because his son works there, so I don't see him boycotting anything.

If UEFA had any balls, they would say that they will refuse to release players during the Qatar World Cup. But that won't happen under Platini because he voted for it.

Platini might see an opportunity to install himself as the leader of a new world footballing body if UEFA's exit causes FIFA to collapse (it would).

What interest would Budweiser, McDonalds, Visa etc have in the World Cup if UEFA, U.S. and maybe Australia all left FIFA?

UEFA clearly aren't going to do that though are they.

To have the impact of potentially bringing FIFA down you'd at least need England / Germany / Spain / Italy / France to all back a boycott and that won't happen without some other significant controversy.

I think the next big controversy is the revelations that will come out of the investigation into the bidding process by Swiss Police.

If it's confirmed that Qatar bought it (they did), and FIFA don't take it from them, then there will be uproar.

If Sepp ultimately manages to weasel his way out of this one, then I'll be content to take great pleasure in that odious twat Warner getting sent down.
