Great article on Andrew Jenkins here, a journalist who's been one of FIFA's enemies for many years now.

Former FIFA executive Chuck Blazer has admitted taking a bribe to back South Africa's bid to host the 2010 World Cup.

The man nicknamed "Mr 10%" admitted to a catalogue of corruption before a US judge, and incriminated other executives in his 2013 evidence, which has just been released.

The court transcript reveals Blazer said: "I and others on the FIFA executive committee agreed to accept bribes in conjunction with the selection of South Africa as the host nation for the 2010 World Cup.

Well, Chuck Blazer seems to have decided to burn FIFA to the ground, admitting taking bribes for 1998 and 2010 world cups, as well as pretty much every Concacaf gold cup. Platini's position suddenly became a lot less tenable, given he was head of the organising committee for the 1998 world cup.

He also admitted taking bribes for France 98. Platini was leading that campaign.

So Platini is as corrupt as the others.

It was Morocco who bribed Blazer for the 98 WC FWIW. Tried again for the 2010 one but South Africa outbribed them.

Ah so it wasn't actually the winning hosts bribing him?

If anything that's even worse. Platini fails at being corrupt. :slol:

I love how there are now loads of officials 'threatening' to release documents linking Blatter to corruption rather than just releasing them. Sounds like they're after immunity deals for themselves first.

In fairness, Jack Warner's threat is a comedy goldmine.

I feel now is the time for someone to leak the Garcia report.

Fifa paid the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) to stop legal action over Thierry Henry's handball in Ireland's World Cup play-off defeat by France in 2009, it has been claimed.
FAI chief executive John Delaney said the association believed it had a legal case against Fifa.
A fee was then agreed to drop the claim, Delaney said, after Ireland missed the 2010 finals in South Africa.
The fee was believed to be 5 million euros (£3.6m).

Who is more in the wrong? Those offering the bribe or those taking them?

How dodgy must something be for a Swiss bank to actually take notice?

'Suspicious activity'
Football
Posted at 12:54
It wouldn't be a day of the week ending in 'y' if we didn't have a story about Fifa, so here goes.

Swiss banks reported suspicious activity around accounts of football's world governing body Fifa, says the Swiss attorney general.

Michael Lauber said his office was analysing a "huge amount" of seized Fifa data in its corruption inquiry.

He said he did not rule out interviews with Fifa president Sepp Blatter as part of his investigation.

The inquiry surrounds possible criminal activity in the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Full story here.
