It think this is unprecedented... it really piles the pressure on Sony as - regardless of wether it's "fair" or not and no matter that they're the market leader - the general perception is that they've made a bad move in not allowing cross-play and "locking" game accounts in Fortnite and Final Fantasy XIV Online.

Wonder if they will take the pish with Fortnite and Rocket League adverts?

It's just following the trend of nothing in the world making sense anymore.

Wow, I didnt think they would be so up front about it, I thought the most we would see was stuff like "play with everyone" or "play across various platforms". Seeing Nintendo and Microsoft working together like this can only be a good thing, Sony are in a tough spot, theyre well out in front with the current gen so they dont really need to get involved in cross play but being the guys who are spoiling the party could turn against them pretty quickly as well.

It's a decent advert but seeing as MS own Minecraft it's not as mental as folk think, as I said if it was Fortnite or Rocket League then it would be more unprecedented.

The dream is Mario Odyssey on X1X in 4K.

That's reserved for when 2 or more console manufacturers share the same stage at E3 for a special announcement.

The market leader will always block cross-play, it's their way of maintaining their lead, all your friends have a PS4 so you'll need a PS4 to play them.

Similar to how Microsoft didn't want crossplay on Minecraft and Final Fantasy XII last gen.

I don't believe MS blocked Cross play on Minecraft, it just wasn't a thing. The better together update is the only way they could make it work. I think Phil's a decent sort and he said he'd have cross play if MS were leading but no sony fan will believe it.

Why would any MS fan believe them, given MS's history of monopolising the software industry? Just look at the number of competitors they have put out of business over the years and number of companies they have acquired. I find it hard to believe that they would treat the games industry any different if the opportunity presented itself and I can't see why anyone else would either, business is business.

Holy gooseberry fool and I thought I wanted the sky That won't ever happen because a) it makes Nintendo look like clueless saps and b) they're too proud to admit they got it wrong. There's probably a c) too, something along the lines of theirs and MS's vision of online is quite different.

N64 was nowhere near as popular as the NES/SNES and, like Sega, they can't be bothered to properly emulate games from their 3D consoles.

Isn't Microsoft stipulating that going forward, to have cross play on Minecraft requires platforms to allow Xbox Achievements? Come on there's no chance that Sony is going to do that.

EDIT: the add is called Minecraft Cross-Play Trailer - Sony invented the term and now their words come back to haunt them!

Was Cross-play a Sony thing? I remember playing FFXI on 360 with people on PC.

If i recall the term was created to highlight cross-platform play between the PS3 and Vita.
Cross-Buy was you buy the PS3 version and you get the Vita included - and vice versa.
Cross-Save was you take your save from PS3 and use it with Vita.
