I'm assuming that Nintendo will have to provide all of the "virtual console" stuff right from the off with their online subscription scheme... won't they? Surely we won't go through a "drip-feed" process again?

I'm also wondering if this could be a chance for Nintendo to update the sub service for Switch+ and make it into a "Game Pass". Imagine if Nintendo"s own games were included; things like Super Mario Bros Wonder launching straight into it!

Also... game pricing. We've had a few years where Nintendo has - unbelievably! - been the cheaper option for "AAA" titles, with Switch games being £49.99 (Zelda and Smash £59.99) whilst PS5 and Xbox Series games are £69.99. I'm guessing that Switch+ games will be £69.99... or higher?

Who is paying top whack for any PS5 or Xbox game? You can't help but pay the Nintendo prices for their 1st party games, but I'm yet to pay more than £40 for any PS5 game.

Yeah, if you wait a few months then you can get disc versions of PS5 games cheaper... but that doesn't alter the release pricing. I think most of us will feel the pinch once console games are all download only; discounts are often far more meagre, especially in the shorter term.

You can get cheaper than Nintendo's pricing too-you can find TOTK for £48 at the moment quite easily and Pikmin 4 for £40.

Physically only though. Digital you're more tied into Nintendo's pricing.

I only ever play docked so a cheaper, screenless version would be nice. Unlikely, but nice.

I do wonder why they’ve not done this really, could offset the portability function by putting more storage into it as well. Reckon there is quite a lot of people who’d opt for such a model as well, could replace the Switch Lite as the cheaper option to play Switch games as well, of course a little functionality would be lost (touch screen, but I can’t think of many games where that’s been essential so far).

Every new model you bring to market brings with it additional cost. I suspect they did a handheld only and not a docked only because they felt the former would open up a new market and therefore the additional sales whereas the latter wouldn't.

Same. Bloody annoying, having to pay for a screen that sits behind my TV and is never used.

Which is understandable given the popularity of the standard Switch.

It's amazing how folk have starkly different preferences for using the Switch! Personally I'm a 90% handheld guy for Switch but it's clear that others - such as you two folk! - strongly favour the TV option. I'm guessing that you're just not into handheld gaming?

I've been a keen user of previous Nintendo handhelds, and as you know, I'm a big fan of the Evercade. But given the choice between the Switch's modes, docked is always preferable for me. Handheld, it's just that bit too heavy for comfort, and the cramped controls are a design-led compromise.
