This topic is inspired by the US politics topic and Trumps new law meaning people can now use untested drugs in terminal cases.

If a hospital gave you the chance to take a new drug that had a 10% chance to give you super powers with the downside being death (slow and painful or fast and gruesome it's up to you) would you take that chance?
The given super powers are random and you may end up with something like being "strawberry floating Godlike at Karaoke" which may or may not sound that great but will indeed make the ladies go wild with sexy desire or so I'm told.

So 10%. Yes or No!!!


I'm voting yes I'm take the chance but only after I've watch the next series of Star Trek, The Expanse and the conclusion to 12 Monkeys as It would be really annoying to miss those.

nah, strawberry float that. I've worked hard to get to where I am in life, I want to enjoy that for a while first.

I can gamble with the pokemon cards and I'm less likely to die doing so, which is enough fun for me

I did wonder about that myself to be honest. Obviously everyone would want to be Superman rather than Bananaman and 10% is a bit on the low side but it is super powers.
Maybe it should be 10% if it's random but always really good and 15% more selective but less powerful.

A super power I'd quite like is the ability to speak, read and write any language as then I could go on holiday anywhere and be a welcome guest as they always like it if you speak the local language. I could also get a cushy job at the UN and constantly insult Nigel Farage in a new language for no reason at all.

No. Those are awful odds. Would have to get to at least 50% before I'd even consider it.

I can’t agree based on these odds. Let me know when you come up with the technology to increase the chances of super powers.

Superpowers would be fun, but it's not worth a 90% chance of dying.

Make it a 50% chance and it would be a harder question.

Did you ever see the Channel 4 show “Misfits”?

One of the characters in that was essentially immortal, he’d get killed and come back from the dead each time. He used it a few times to save the day, even though it hurt like hell.

If they can only do it in terminal cases, then I'm dying anyway if it doesn't work. So it's either a 10% chance of a superpower, with 90% chance of dying, or 0% chance of a superpower or 100% chance of dying.

I'd be a fool not to go with it.

I'd do it if I was going to die anyway but otherwise those are terrible odds.

I think some kind of psychic power would be cool, or possibly the ability to manipulate matter at a molecular level.

I'll take the superpowers from Sailor Moon. I want everyone to have to watch my incredibly long transformation sequence every time I save the world.
