It’s not really an amazing photo like the thread subject states but after looking through my photos it’s one I like

Love those macro shots, i wish i had a camera which could do that, mine's a piece of clapped out crap which has a mind of it's own (i press one button, and it does something else entirely)

The b500, it's pretty much the maximum my budget will allow for, and from the demos i've seen, the picture and recording quality is a significant step up from what i have now.

Have you not considered an entry level DSLR, such as the d3300? If you really want to get into photography you will be frustrated by the limitations of the B500.

The trouble with DSLR's is that there's always a lot of messing about with lenses and settings. Because i take a lot of my stuff when i'm on the move, i need something where i can just stop, click click/record, then continue on my way with minimal fuss, especially when i'm in London as i usually have a whole bunch of other things i need to be doing.

I've been doing this for a long time now and always prefer to use a quick and easy bridge camera, it was only this latest one i've had (Fuji S9900) which has been such a pain.

I’ve found the reverse to be true. I had a Nikon super zoom before my D5300. It’s true, if you want to mess about with setting etc then it will take time, but they are very much faster than any other camera at taking a quick on the fly picture.

If you use a bridge camera it takes a few seconds to switch on and the lens to make itself comfortable, the autofocus tends to hunt (even more so if it is zoomed out), press the shutter and it thinks about it for a second before doing anything (relative to a DSLR). If you want to zoom, that takes forever then the camera has to refocus.

DSLR, if you want to take super fast photos, stick it in auto, point it what you’re taking a picture of, press the shutter. Want to zoom, twist the zoom.

DSLRs take the pictures you want to take whereas Bridge cameras take the pictures they want to take.

Edit. I’ve been doing this a long time too. I got my first SLR for my 13th birthday and I’m now 48

Sorry for my delay in replying, there were leaves on the line*

Yeah, i looked up some entry level DLSR's after reading your post, but they're all way too expensive (my budget is barely £200, and i don't want to get a pre-owned model), that's another reason i was gonna go for a b500 bridge.

*I genuinely forgot about this thread until just now.

I'm not quite as adept at wielding a camera as many others in this thread, but I thought I'd share these all the same. This is just a limited selection of pictures I took whilst at the 'Dawn of Superheroes' exhibition with a pretty standard camera.

Decent! Did you have to mess on with other settings to get that, or did you just point and shoot?

All i did was adjust the little dial on top of the camera to auto scene select, then it was just a case of point and click (there's not a great deal of ways you can adjust individual settings on this one (as far as i know so far) compared with the old Fuji, i don't think it's even possible to do a 4 second long exposure, i don't mind sacrificing that though for the improved image quality which is way, way better).

I want to get a pic of the full moon at some point, but the recent dodgy weather has denied me the chance to have a go.
