These were taken a few years ago, and with a Canon Pixma camera, but I like them.

It's been a while. I just got a Speed Booster to make better use of my old manual lenses (Canon FD mount) on my MFT camera. Liking it a lot so far and I'm even considering expanding my collection of FD lenses to include an ultra wide (but holy strawberry float is a 14mm FD lens expensive on ebay) and a portrait lens (probably one of the 85mm ones. The f1.2 one is tantalizingly close to an acceptable price, but the f1.8 is practically an impulse buy...)).
Anyway, here are some shots I took with the Speed Booster. The wheelbarrows one is taken with a 50mm, the other two are taken with a 24mm.

I don't know what it is about your photos, Cyborg, but I always find they're incredibly sharp.

Tried a bit of long exposure stuff:

I'm thinking of chucking the D3100. It's an alright camera, but I don't like the screen. It's worthless for checking exposure.

I am finding a lot of my pictures aren't as sharp as i would like, in fact some are just plain terrible, I dunno if it is just me or my settings, currently using a canon 700d, with an EFS 18-200mm lens and also have a canon 50mm prime.

Any advice other than just practice ?

Don't shoot lenses wide open if you don't have to or don't want to take advantage of the shallow depth of field. Most lenses are the least sharp at their widest aperture.

Then there's obvious stuff like shooting at a faster shutter speed and what not.

More often than not, your photos are sharp, you just won't think so if you blow them up to 100% and pixel peep them.

And good light (i.e. edge lighting) makes things definition and makes them look sharp.

I always try to look at my photos objectively by zooming out to about a5 size or whatever they will be printed at on my monitor, instead of 100%. If it looks good it looks good.

That's really not a bad shout. I can get a bit obsessed with absolute clarity, especially on faces/eyes. But most the time the pic looks decent at normal scale/distance.

It comes from experience working professionally in galleries etc. It's simply a waste of time. Always consider your end intent (media) and user/audience. If it's not going to be blown up massive then save a copy and do something reasonable with it. You can always go back to your RAWs and sharpen the strawberry float out of specific parts if you want to.

A while thinking this way and you'll probably realise you needn't do this most the time, and that way you're more productive. Sometimes you have to let go of your baby.

Also stand back from your work and consider how you're not going to be 1-2ft away from the image when it's on a wall!!

I was walking by this wall and this cat decided to follow me.

Flickr's new Magic View is pretty strawberry floating cool. It's not perfect (there's a picture of a cat that Flickr thought was a picture of a bird), but it's very impressive just how accurate it can be. It's also pretty cool to see which photos the algorithm thinks are serene or surreal or abstract or minimalist.

Thanks, I think. It probably has something to do with me always messing with sharpening, contrast and clarity (probably too much).

Flickr's Magic View keeps impressing. It auto-tagged that second photo as 'abstract'.

Had the opportunity to take some photos of my mates band the other night. Really enjoyed it, darting around the stage and stuff. About half way through I motioned to one of the crew guys if I could go almost 'back stage' to get shots from the side, felt like a pro!

Anyway....... First time trying to shoot in the dark so they have a fair bit of noise

That's beautiful, but wish it was wide enough to see their bums! Here's a quick test shot out the window in Berlin with a Helios lens from the USSR.

There have been some African wildlife pictures by Laurent Baheux doing the rounds: one was a stark B&W shot of a lion's head.

Anyway, it strongly reminded me of one I'd taken of the dog (Ridgebacks are also known as Lion Hounds, for thier appearance as well as their use as big game hunters), so I stuck them side-by-side. Got a 'like' from the original photographer for my trouble. :)
