Maybe it's my hate of Ricky Gervais and the fact I hadn't worked in an office but I tried watching the English office when it first come out and I didn't find it at all funny.

I never bothered even trying to watch the American office for that reason.

Give the us one a go, it doesn't have gervais and it is much better a show, it uses the same base story initially but does a better job at being funny and expands the story considerably more.

I think older comedies suffer from having other, worse shows come along afterwards and recycle jokes or premise.

Ever sat in a cafe with a coffee and thought "man, I wish there was an image of my face in this drink?"

Now this wish can become a reality.

And it costs £2 extra :dread: .

Sat next to some tattooed bloke in a restaurant yesterday (Iron Man and Spider-Man all over his arms in case you’re wondering) who appeared to have a cold and now today I’ve got a sore throat. Bastard.

Does anyone know if there are any apps for an iphone to display regular videos in a format suitable for those VR/3D goggles? Not after any massive conversion experience as that would obviously not exist, more splitting a regular feed into side by side so each lense gets a view.

Any have the Philips Hue lighting thingy? Decent price on Amazon for an Echo with the kit so my itchy, gadget buying fingers are starting to twitch. Worth it?

Mate of mine has it, it is very cool.

He has gone mental for it so has the bulbs, led strips in kitchen uplight things.

You can zone the lights and it can respond to sounds and things for like a "party" mode, also do geofencing so you can have certain light come on if it is at night and you go into your road sort of thing.

They theme their light for film nights now and have profiles set up for with the nieces and nephews so when they watch a film like Finding Nemo they theme the colours like they are under the sea and stuff like that, very cool.

I'm very interested in all these things, but everytime I look into them I always catch myself thinking, "But would I ever actually use it". I rarely check weather or traffic, if I want a google search I'll do it on my phone or pc and I've never found a voice controlled system that was actually quicker than doing it manually.

I guess I'm waiting for a killer app to be honest. Or am I missing something awesome about them?

Hue is for controlling lights and plugs and things not an assistant. You can get blubs, led strips etc for it and they all hook up the controller and then can be controlled from an app or via Alexa etc. it adds value to the assistant apps by adding functionality.

The pricing on the amazon deal is such that the Echo is only about £20 (Its £169 for an Echo and the Hue starter kit). I quite fancy one of those as I need a reasonably priced speaker and I've got Amazon prime so can stream music from that.

Yeah I was referring more to the assistants and the idea of connected homes than Hue specifically.

I guess I just want to see it all mature a bit more. See some standards develop so that there's no "Oh I want this but it's not compatible with Alexa/Google etc" and just generally have a bit more to it.

That said my priority is to set up a media server at home first, then build the rest around it.
