Breaks up the monotony of getting fags, scratchcards and topping up the electricity key I suppose.

You have a very weird idea of who buys a physical copy of the Guardian.

It's a shame, but many people feel this way about papers now; they're used to news and journalism being "free" and would never pay for anything like that. Personally I enjoy the more "in depth" reporting that you get in a paper rather than the short summaries you see on the net... but there is no doubt that paper sales are falling rapidly.

A dying medium, I will not mourn its passing.

i agree with jawa :o
the other (probably hyperbolic) outcome if print journalism falls down is we end up with a combo of state/foreign propaganda, 'fake news', Facebook and Buzzfeed 'stories' and a complete lack of investigative and accountable journalism - so the rich and powerful get away with everything instead of just 99% of their harmful actions :toot:
oh well, at least it wont cost me anything :toot:

Why would I pay for a newspaper when I can get all my news for free by listening to BBC Radio 4 on my analogue radio

Some people like the ritual of cutting up virgins to appease the blood gods, but I don’t think we should encourage them.

Twenty quid   :? . That is crazy!

I have never bought The Guardian but, hearing about the new tabloid the format, I did go to buy a copy on the Monday launch day. Saw it was two pounds - two pounds! - and got something else instead, though  .

The Daily Mail, right?

The Daily Mail gave away an Airfix Spitfire model on Saturday genuinely worth £10. The queue in WHSmiths was strawberry floating enormous. Full of oldies reminiscing about how we won the battle of Hastings in 1850 with a broom. Or something.

Imagine if their suppliers strawberry floated up and they gave away thousands of Airfix Messerschmitts instead.

Overheard conversation...

'You'll never guess what Iceland are doing...ham. 67 pence. SIXTY SEVEN PEEEEE. I don't know how they do it. I'm going to get some for my son later. He loves a bit of ham. Not too thick though...sometimes they're too thick, you know.'

The things women of a certain age get excited about.

So true though, that 67p includes slaughter, storage, paying the farms, transportation, packaging AND the supermarket markups and they still make profit, enough for it to be worth their while selling it. What kind of gooseberry fool meat is in it?
