FFS, think my PC speakers are about to die on me, they keep fading in and out and make a weird high pitched whine every so often.

Only seems to happen occasionally at the moment but I fear the worst.

I seem to remember Rome being a lot smaller than you would expect, you can walk around loads of tourists sites in a surprisingly short period of time (unlike somewhere like London).

Really excited to head to Vatican City, even though I despise Catholicism.

Good shout, have just done that. Agree with him that the Trevi Fountain during the daytime is a genuinely awful experience we're going again later tonight after dinner at a jazz bar.

Did the Vatican today. Thought the Sistine Chapel was absolutely stunning — probably the highlight of the whole trip so far.

When I went to the Sistine chapel about 15 years ago it was almost ruined by the continual photo taking even though you're explicitly asked in about 15 languages not to do it. My thought is that it would only have gotten worse since then with the proliferation of decent camera phones but have they cracked down it? It's a wonderful place but I'd imagine it's best experienced either right at the beginning or end of the day when it's quiet.

They were definitely trying to crack down on it. I think taking photos on a phone can be much more discreet than what I remember of 15 years ago, with chunky point and click devices being aimed all over the place.

I managed to get a couple of sneaky snaps myself, without anyone noticing .

Why would they want to ban people taking pictures of the place? Other than to try and force you to buy 'official' pictures from the gift shop anyway.
