Most people who have the experience of belonging to a subculture learn to be accepting of other people and not engage with that, but I guess some people just have a need to feel superior and direct that need either outwards back into the mainstream ("normies!!! ") or sideways into another subculture ("I might like anime catgirls but at least I'm not a furry!!!").

I mean, to answer seriously, are you surprised that there are Nazis in every hobby and lifestyle and identity? There are Nazi anime nerds, Nazi Star Trek fans, gay Nazis, female Nazis, black Nazis... for some of them I think the experience of being bullied makes them want to bully back, or imitate the rhetoric used to bully them; for others I guess they are just evil people who happen to have that niche interest or minority identity.

I wasn't saying that everyone who is dorky or queer is a nice person, I said that usually subcultures tend to be accepting of other subcultures, and my personal experience is that communities that celebrate mixed dorkdom tend to be nice in general. Of course you can find exceptions to that. But consider that you are an anime nerd, and I am sure I could find anime fan-art of waifus wearing Make America Great Again hats, yet it would be dumb to judge you or anime fans in general based on that.

Seeing as all the furry conventions have been putting up 'Nazi Furs F**k Off' signs, not very well.

Every fandom has its pockets of strangeness.
