Surprised by everyone's surprise. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. When they were missing their own deadlines yet announcing more and more projects with an engine in dire need of a complete overhaul it was obvious things were very wrong internally.

I wasn't a huge follower of their work, but the wife and I did enjoy playing The Walking Dead together. The wife was quite TWD fan for a time and one christmas I bought her a stack of memorabilia based on the show, including a copy of The Walking Dead GOTY Edition for the Xbox 360.

Anyway, always a shame to see a developer close.

Urgh, the total lack of redundancy pay is a strawberry floating disgrace, but hardly a surprise. Worker protection is a joke in the US: friend of mine moved over and got 6 days off per year, very and he could only use them at specific times of the year.

Internet standards baffle me. It's a-okay to make jokes about dead celebrities who have left family behind (to me, to me), but make a joke about a couple hundred people being made redundant? Well, you're a strawberry floating monster.

This is really sad. I always enjoyed the games and, as has been pointed out, losing your job in America means losing a lot more than just that thing you do between 9 and 5. I hope they all get re-employed quickly.

No that thread is largely trash too.

In that case, I'm glad to see your morals are consistant, at least. Perhaps shame on me to tar all with the same brush. You're a better man than I?

Meh, maybe if they'd still made proper point & click style adventure games with sensible control schemes I might have been able to play them and therefore care about this news.

I was a big fan of Telltale's work, particularly their earlier stuff. I grew up playing point and click adventure games and they almost single-handedly revived a genre that was practically dead. It was brilliant to see new entries in franchises like Sam & Max and Monkey Island, even if they didn't quite live up to the originals.

Obviously they moved away from those sort of games but I really enjoyed their take on modern adventure games too, the first season of TWD and Wolf Among Us being particular highlights. They were inconsistent though and the standard definitely went downhill as they started producing too much stuff and taking on bigger and bigger licenses, the games could be so buggy too. Despite the negatives it's still really sad to see them go and such a shame that so many people have so abruptly been put out of work. From a selfish point of view I'm also pretty disappointed that we'll likely never get to see a proper conclusion to their walking dead series.

Decided to order TWD S2 today for 360 being as the wife and I never got around to playing it. We may never see the series conclusion, but as the wife has agreed we should play more games together again it seems as good a place as any to start given how much we enjoyed the first.

I never played a Telltale game myself but it was clear to me that they bit off more than they could chew.

I knew they had problems but I had assumed they had started to move past them.

It seems odd that, on the day this news broke, they put a new game up for pre-order on the PlayStation Store. Stranded Deep is £18.99 and requires immediate payment.

Kaz & I saw that on Xbox as well, was weird.

Might be automatic thing though, like they put the request and they only just got around to having it on there.

I'll assume it'll get removed soon if not already

Have you played Tales from the Borderlands? If not, you must try it. Best of the Telltale games IMO.

100% agree with this.

Tales from the Borderlands is the best work that Telltale ever put out.
