Telltale Games to close.

Anything to do with games at all.

Shame, Tales From The Borderlands is a genuinely amazing experience. I'd like to pick up the Batman series' and GOTG, so hopefully they aren't removed from sale.

Is everyone going to get paid severance? If so then yay. If not, then strawberry float them and their game.

Ex-fucking-actly.

strawberry float the continuation of that series if all they're doing is hiring in some cheap labour to get it finished in order to pay off executives.

It'll be a rushed job I reckon. Another reason not to buy it.

It’s kinda hard to pay severance if your company liquidates, is it not? Like, I’m not a fan of not getting a redundancy package but I thought liquidation means nobody gets anything, whether you want to pay them or not?

That's generally the case in liquidation scenarios, yes. You can take legal action, but it's often not with the time.

I think this is the crux of it: the employees were told that they weren't getting severance and that this wasn't a contravention of the WARN act as TTG was going into "complete financial shutdown." If they are still able to pay a skeleton crew/contractors to finish The Walking Dead, they are not in such a shutdown and the former employees are owed money, legally.

It's just another example of the clusterfuck at the executive levels of Telltale.

(As a side-note, it's also a furthering of the ArenaNet scenario: companies pandering to crybaby fans rather than their staff, who are already overworked and underpaid.)

Well I'll wait and see how it turns out - we don't know who is paying who for what yet, so it's best not to jump to conclusions.

But you see the contradiction right? "Complete financial shutdown" (a phrase specifically repeated by several former TTG empoyees over twitter) =/= "able to finance more game episodes."

Even if they're going to pay some former employees to complete the game the point remains that they are prioritising the completion of the game over giving their employees their legally required severance pay.

Could it be someone external is stepping in to finance the completion of TWD? I have no idea of the legal implications but perhaps someone else has come in and said they’ll finance it for X share of the profits.

This is where it gets sticky. As far as I can see, if TTG receives any money it should still be channelling that into its legal obligations to pay its former employees. Knowing American finance laws however, I'm sure there's a backhanded way they could finance the game and stiff the workers out of this.

Which is morally reprehensible, but as Corazon says, an assumption at this point.

We'll see.

Both Batman Series are on Disc (and I assume it's the "full" game as released after ep 5 of each. So you should be ok)

Of course I do. However at the moment there is no contradiction, because we don't know what the arrangement is. It is entirely possible (perhaps even probable) that another developer will be taking over from the wording of that tweet MHTL posted, and Telltale will have nothing to do with the finished product beyond the work they've already done on it. It may be that another company somewhere has spotted an opportunity for easy money and has offered to take over development of TWD.

My point is simply that shouting* "strawberry float Telltale this" and "strawberry float their lack of severance pay that," might be a little premature before we know what the scenario is. Telltale might not have much of a say in whatever discussions are ongoing at the moment.

If it turns out that you're right and they are prioritising something other than their workers' rights I'll happily join the chorus, but until then I'll wait and see what comes out of this.

*I say shouting, I obviously mean typing. Unless you are literally shouting every post you make at your computer in which case...videos, please.

I really do hope they have some work around so they can actually complete the series, at least for the fans.

I agree with you, but I'm also kinda like 'well I paid for the game, so good'.

Has there been any word on the switch release of Batman season 2 on switch? Would like to have both seasons together on the same platform and given that it's only a couple of weeks away I'm hoping it was finished before the layoff.
