First season alone is still good but the two together are excellent

I wonder if any other devs will pick up some of Telltale’s games? Like pick up Walking Dead in order to finish the final season and then release a complete collection? I guess they would need some of the former Telltale staff to assist

This is sad, I only looked at whether GoT S2 was coming out last week.

Is Tales of Borderlands a closed story? If so I might like it up, if it's their best work.

It is. Not just their best game, but genuinely funny.

Yes?

It tells a complete story (far more than GoT) but it leaves things open for a potential (no more :() season 2

The Walking Dead is easily still the best Telltale game

I found it unfunny and I had no investment in the characters. The whole Telltale style is about making hard choices and that works so much better in TWD where I genuinely wanted characters to survive.

Didn't that only become the Telltale style *with* the Walking Dead? The binary "ONE OF THESE PEOPLE MUST DIE YOU DECIDE" choices just got a little boring after the sixth time you're given them.

I still haven't played season 2 :shifty:

Yeah it did, and that probably helps explain why it worked best in TWD. It was fresh and matched the IP very well, the following titles just haven't been as good a fit. I still had fun with The Wolf Among Us and Minecraft, the latter mainly for the faithful and surprisingly deep portrayal of the universe, but the gameplay was never as good a match. Tales from the Borderlands was similarly tired from the gameplay side, but I also found the humour derivative (a problem with every Borderlands game since (and probably including tbh) the original).

I've never played a Telltale game so I'm probably part of the reason they are now dying, though it sounds like the terrible management didn't help!

Just something about their work never appealed to me, I watched a few videos of things like TWD and TWAU and I couldn't see a reason for jumping on board. These kinds of things live or die on their story and how it is delivered and whilst I am a great believer that fantastic things can be done with narrative and story in games that is impossible to achieve in other media, the Telltale style just didn't seem to offer anything unique in that area. Combine that with the fact that as others have said they never seemed to innovate beyond the initial style they developed and it just never felt like something worth buying into.

I do feel sorry for the folks who have lost their jobs over this, hopefully they can find themselves a role elsewhere. Having your place of work just shut down on you like this is not a feeling that anyone would want to experience.

No, that was the Sam and Max seasons they did.

BATMAN

No seriously Batman S2 I thought they had turned it around. It had good story, the engine had been worked on so performance was better.
And choices started to genuinely matter. Episode 5 comes in two versions depending on your previous choices.
2 entirely separate and distinct experiences with no "cross over" scenes that occur in both.
And yeah they end up in the same place (Batman saves the city! Surprise!) the journey to get there is so very very different, and also felt true to your choices throughout.

The games industry just seems absolutely brutal me, in terms of job security and financial stability. Why would anyone willingly opt to enter the business? Telltale seemed to have the credentials, the pedigree and some measure of financial success. I dunno, I realize that the old idea of a 'job for life' was probably dead by the time I entered the jobs market back in the early 1980s, but I think if you're a young graduate today looking for a career in the games industry you better be very agile, travel light and be prepared for short-term contract work as a way of life.

The Walking Dead Season 1 made me cry like an eejit.

Season 1 and 2 are among the best game experiences I've ever had.
