This seems like a cool idea. I dunno if there will be probs cycling that many logos, though - I recall that we've had people say that "they don't load up" when we've tried this in the past. But, hey, I'm not techy enough to know the truth about this.

I think this can easily be worked around by reducing the resolution and filesize of the logos.

If people themselves cant do it I would happily do the process myself on every submitted logo and have them all conformal

Jawa what you would probably want to do (assuming its going to go ahead) is have a thread or whatever where people can submit their logos to a respository. We could provide the raw PNG/PSD file with the layers for people who want to do that, although I think considering the event a ruleset of fitting inside of the resolution/aspect ratio would be fine, so people can do paint logos or whatever.

Then people just work on their own logo, upload it to a repo, myself, Karl, you, GG, whomever, can then ensure they all fit an appropriate filesize.

The tricky bit is that Karl or perhaps Errkal would have to replace the current logo function with one that draws a random image from the repo and uses that instead. It isnt a difficult function but its non-trivial if they dont have time.

Then whenever the logo is called it just pulls a random image from this repo and presents it to the user. Re the repo I think for the submission phase keep it simple for the non-technically inclined user so an imgur album, dropbox folder, google share anything really. Maybe even an ftp to gr itself though I fear that would elude someone who hasnt done it before, and for the event you want as many subs as possible. Then migrate this public repo to the backend GR logo repo which already exists.

The bulk of the work would be on Karl/GG/Errkal though as they would need to do the little header code bit. This is functionality that we have had before, I could swear on it.

This sounds like a good approach, Falsey, albeit the tech / timescale work for - potentially - Karl, GG and / or Errkal. I guess we'll need their expertise and view on whether this idea is a goer.

I will sort out getting them to rotate properly, you don't have to worry about that. The code already exists, we have had logo rotations before.

The forum didn't open its doors for posting until August 17th and that would be the day I would choose as our 'anniversary', so if we aim to get the logos up a day or two before that then that would be great.
