So why are the words 'Peace be upon him' automatically inserted into a sentence after mentioning his name by some Muslims? Sounds pretty much like worshipping him to me...

By the way, is the same rule applied to Allah? Can he be pictured?

Eighthours, peace be upon him is a sign of respect. Worship of the teachings is one thing, but idolatry is forbidden. (Generally not the mere portrayal of the prophet, though that still is distasteful).

You obviously worship god, but you do not worship his image.

Just some guy said basically the exact thing you said.

It's a common thing actually. It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't understand it in the bigger picture, but yes, if you are a true muslim you should love your prophet more than anything else on earth. Now this is not because it's demanded or expected ....Islam teaches parents are the most important thing in your life and without you respecting you are not a true muslim.

I don't see why they need to go out of their way to draw Mohammed, what are they hoping to achieve except insult 2 billion people on earth? This is just publicity stunt, would any of you guys know these strawberry floating french banana splits if they didn't do this? No, of course not.

We respect other religions and don't go out of our way to draw or do something that offends them. Atheist are just strawberry floating bored and need constant approval which just begs of sadness.

But why does it cause such outrage? If there is no offensive content in the picture apart from the very fact of the depiction of Muhammed himself (ie. if there are no rude words and no slights against Muslims or the faith in the picture), can you go through the thought process for me as to how it's one of the worst things anyone can do?

See this is why you guys will never understand a muslim. Our prophet is more dear to me than my own parents, I love him more than the world, joke all you want but I find it insensitive and moronic thing to do .

I find it odd that Islam teaches that there is only one God and that Mohammed is only a prophet and yet Muslims get so angry about disrespect towards Mohammed. I get that he is important to the religion, but if you are so worried about idolatry, I would suggest you are already doing so by making Mohammed so much more important than any other person or prophet.

You've put it much better than me. This is what I was trying to suggest earlier.

As far as Im aware its the idolatry that is forbidden, ie, the worship of the image of the prophet and god rather than the teachings. Totally fair enough. The mere portrayal is not expressly forbidden (unless you can point to teachings that indicate otherwise).

Id argue that I very much doubt any muslim is going to worship the image of mohammad portrayed in charlie hebdo. Sad and tasteless as the images may be, sacriligious they aint.

So? Thats your problem, you cant expect everyone else to tiptoe around you just because you dont like it.

WHY! do you need to draw something that people frown upon? It's not like you have genuine interest in Islam so why go out of your way?

Tiptoe? No, when you directly insult the prophet you insult all muslims. We believe in his teachings and if we did not get offended than we never truly cared for his teaching .

Now, about the violence, that is something that is unacceptable. Regardless of what you believe, we do not like taken life unless its in self defence . The whole thing is bullshit, and it is there to make muslims the boogie man. ''ooowww fear the muslims, oooooh kill the muslims'' and you guys are eating it up like a hot delicious pie. ''Terrorist attack''....yes, of course it is when you are speaking of muslims. I personally believe these people that are committing these crimes are being funded by agenda that is out to destroy muslim image (it's already destroyed in the media).

Funny how the shoe bomber and this french guy were once room mates. What are the strawberry floating odds? CIA is raping your skulls and you love it.

Very good point moggy.

That is exactly the reason why we do not draw mohammed as that usually leads to idolatry as seen in the case of Jesus. Jesus is our prophet but Christianity has been completely ruined once they started believing he was the god and not messenger . He is a important person, a prophet is a important high valued person and we have never said Mohammed is more important than Jesus or Moses.

Why do all tragedies have to be a conspiracy theory with you? Do you think it is so impossible that a few mentally unstable or brainwashed people can get access to weapons and shoot other people? Not everything has to be a CIA plot.

Christianity was ruined/finished when most people realise the whole book is complete bollocks and there no justifiable cause for forcing a view over a group of people by any means necessary.

Ok, so why was there no Muslim outrage when Charlie Hebdo printed cartoons of Jesus? Why were Muslims not angered enough to protest at the portrayal of Adam and Jesus in Jerry Springer the Opera?

Again, I understand that Mohammed is important to Islam, but if he is not any more important than the other prophets, why does there not appear to be the same level of anger when other prophets are satirised, mocked or drawn?

Mocky, if you want answer to that question than you need to understand what ISLAM is, and who the prophet mohammed is. You need to understand the background on both and not what you know from TV. As been said before Muslims should not act the way they are acting everytime someone draws Mohammed and instead educate them on why it's frowned upon and explain the heartach it causes . When I say learn Islam it has stories on Jesus and the whole crossing thing that has happened. Muslims full well know whoever you're depicting is not Jesus (if you read the Quran) .

I personally look away everytime someone makes fun of Jesus and it does annoy me. It's the media blowing things out of proportion and people (muslims/non muslims) blindly falling for it .

Which Christians believe that Jesus is the God and not the messenger? Surely none. He's just the big guy's kid.

Christians do in fairness consider Jesus to be part of God in the holy trinity, not an entity apart from God.

How exactly it works is something you'd need to ask a theologian about but God and Jesus are one and the same.

This is what I don't get.

If I posted a Mohammed cartoon, you would be angered by it.

If I posted a Jesus cartoon, you would look away and be annoyed and think that I was not depicting Jesus?

Mohammed might be the most important person in the founding of Islam as a religion, but you are taught that he is no more important than Jesus. What is the difference between the cartoon examples?

In my defence I was really interested in religious theory and history at school. I figured Id at least learn about these things so I can formulate a real opinion rather than be an edgy tryhard.
