From Tetsuya Mizuguchi and the same people who brought you the award-winning Rez Infinite and Lumines comes the new PS4 game TETRIS® EFFECT.

Named after a real-world phenomenon where players’ brains are so engrossed that images of the iconic falling Tetrimino blocks (i.e. the Tetris playing pieces) linger in their vision, thoughts, and even dreams, TETRIS EFFECT amplifies this magical feeling of total immersion by surrounding you with fantastic, fully three-dimensional worlds that react and evolve based on how you play. Music, backgrounds, sounds, special effects—everything, down to the Tetris pieces themselves, pulse, dance, shimmer, and explode in perfect sync with how you’re playing.

From deep beneath the ocean to the furthest reaches of outer space and everywhere between, TETRIS EFFECT’s 30-plus stages take players on a wondrous, emotional journey through the universe. The core of the game is still Tetris—one of the most popular puzzle games of all time—but like you’ve never seen it, or heard it, or felt it before.

Whether in full HD on a standard display and PS4, or in razor-sharp 4K resolution with a PS4 Pro, or in fully-immersive 3D via the optional PS VR support, TETRIS EFFECT’s gorgeous imagery, evocative sounds, and super-addictive gameplay add up to an unforgettable experience...and that’s literally unforgettable, as the game’s name implies.

Game Features:
    - Includes the all-new “Zone” mechanic, where players can stop time (and Tetriminos falling) by entering “the Zone” and either get out of a sticky situation that could otherwise lead to “Game Over,” or rack up extra line clears for bonus rewards.
    - Over 30 different stages, each with its own music, sound effects, graphical style and background that all evolve and change as you play through them.
    - Fully playable on either a standard display (up to 4K and 60fps on a PS4 Pro), or optionally in mind-blowing 3D on PS VR.
    - Fan-favorite modes like Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra, with more all-new modes and other features to be revealed before launch.
    - A player grading and leveling system as well as variable difficulty to encourage and reward replayability.

A challenge for the mind and a feast for all the senses, TETRIS EFFECT is the perfect excuse to play Tetris again... and again...and again, and again, and again and again and again and again and again and again and...

I never clicked with Rez but the trailer for this, along with the accompanying song, is blowing my mind. Need the game *now*.

You should try it again.

I'll buy this anyway, but its not the game I want Mizuguchi to make.

In for anything Tetris related. The gameplay bit of the trailer (if you can call it that) looks like that one mode from Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Ah, just what I want when I'm playing Tetris - a load of off-putting visual effects.

I think I'll have to seeing as we're not getting this until later this year.

It's one of the best game trailers I've ever seen, not often I walk out of one in a euphoric daze @_@

I reckon it'll be a bit like Lumines but instead of the theme/colour scheme changing every few stages the game will change to a different puzzle type.

I think it would be interesting to start off with playing Tetris, then have to immediately adapt to something like Puyo Puyo, Columns or indeed Lumines every few stages, although I imagine a lot of people wouldn't like that.

It strawberry floating is. Sure there's a bit where you can stack multiple lines which is new, but otherwise it plays exactly the same. Watch that video with the pro, he even says that the backgrounds can be distracting.

PS4 only, why no Switch version!

I wasn’t too fussed about this until I watched the video with the old Tetris Pro playing it on VR- now I really want it. There’s also a follow up video where he gives his thoughts. The video host speculates that the Pro is so naturally good because of the low latency of PSVR. It all looks and sounds a trip.

It appears to be a lot more tetris than I thought from the initial trailer

The only gameplay there made it look like the objective was to clear the screen in time to music, and I'm sort of disappointed that isn't the case :P
