The Sun wrote:AN X Factor wannabe says she is furious producers made her talk about the spate of suicides in Bridgend.
Millions watched as Alexandra Davies, 17, said she wanted to be “the good bit of news” her town needs.
Dermot O’Leary, hosting the ITV1 talent show, then described the South Wales area as “living under a cloud” after 23 young suicides in 20 months.
Alexandra got through to the next round on Saturday, but last night she fumed: “The producers wanted me to talk about Bridgend yet I didn’t want to — just in case I offended someone’s family.
“I would much rather be known for my talent than the girl that comes from the suicide town.
“It is a lovely place to live. I was upset at how it came over. I’m pleased to be representing Bridgend.”
Student Alexandra — who impressed Simon Cowell and the other judges with Sting’s Fields Of Gold — lives around the corner from where eighth victim Zachary Barnes, 17, died a year ago.
She did not know him nor any of the victims and does not want her success to be a sympathy vote.
Mum Paula Watts, 38, insisted: “It’s wrong to make innocent people make comment.”
Darren Matthews, director of Bridgend Samaritans, said: “We don’t want to trivialise what has gone on in the area.”
And ITV insisted: “The brief mention of Bridgend was not meant to sensationalise but to highlight a positive story.”
An X Factor official added: “Alexandra gave a wide-ranging interview about issues that were important and personal to her. There was absolutely no pressure placed on her.”
