I think she just gets breathless from talking due to being old and obese. She sounds the same as a few years ago when she came out with the "on balance, Mao did more good than bad" line. Just bigger and more frequent gasps for air inbetween talking. Probably has high blood pressure too given her size.

Maybe. She sort of sounds like a drunk person trying to convince you they're not drunk.

Jesus christ...

Speaking to a guy at work who's planning on voting Tory at the upcoming election, we got onto the project of Theresa May's attacks on privacy and plans on setting up a government controlled internet. He's all for it and came out with the line "If you want to be protected then you can't have any privacy"

There aren't enough :fp: and :dread: in the world.

That's like the conversation I had with someone the other day - I was pointing out the problems with recording everything everyone does online, and they didn't care. I asked would they be OK with cameras in their home recording what they do there too, and they said that's different because the internet isn't real

Terrorist attacks are obviously awful and shocking, but realistically the chance of 'death by terrorism' is tiny (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/many- ... ttacks-uk/ http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news ... die-282884), yet annoyingly so many people in our society appear to be willing to give up our privacy and erode our freedoms in the name of security. How does it even stop someone from simply jumping into a vehicle and driving through a crowd anyway?

Benjamin Franklin wrote:"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Wise words indeed, although he wasn't actually referring to civil liberty and security at the time I feel the quote is surprisingly apt in that context..

What people, especially in government, don't seem to understand is that liberal democracies are not all powerful and that in fact we have inherent weakness coded into our DNA. If you have a free society you have a vulnerable society. Anyone with any personal liberty or privacy is a potential threat.

We think having a huge war machine should make us able to bully and intimidate anyone but really we are 'glass cannons'; capable of exuding immense force but always vulnerable. Before we engage our military might anywhere in world, we need to be mindful of the soft underbelly we leave exposed to anyone who wants to harm us. Our leaders suffer from a dangerous illusion of invulnerability that leads them to compromise are safety by interfering and enticing others to attack our most vulnerable places. So, there is nothing inherently strong about western democracies. In fact we are incredibly fragile entities.

May vs. Corbyn...Separately, Live tonight on Channel 4 and Sky News at 8:30pm.

The perfect way to ruin round off your Bank Holiday weekend.

Horrible scheduling though unfortunately - it's going head-to-head with one of the top 5 rated programmes of the entire year: Britain's Got No Talent.

A face that says 'I'll be having words with Dacre immediately after this...'

(but not before I get in my catchphrase of "strong and stable" first)

Tory candidate for Jo Cox’s seat jokes ‘We have not yet shot anybody’

Dr Ann Myatt, running for election in Batley and Spen, made the comment during a hustings debate held for constituents to quiz each candidate before the vote on June 8.

Praising the event, she said: ‘We have here people of all faiths, we have here people from different parts of the community, and we have not yet shot anybody so that’s wonderful.’
