The problem with "strong and stable" soundbites ad nauseum - it's an easy soundbite to measure against.

I can't recall the last time a manifesto pledge was rolled back/watered down/clarified so quickly?

No idea. They've only announced broad strokes they'll consult on - not the exact specifics of mechanics.

As it stands (broadly) if it's before you get ill you'd be ok. If you knew you were likely to get ill, or it was done purely to avoid paying for care you'd get caught under "deliberate deprivation rules" in CRAG.

Panicking isn't a particularly good look for a Prime Minister.

She's denying that it's even a U-turn. She's still strong, stable.

Going around telling everyone you're strong and stable doesn't sound very strong and stable to me. It's the equivalent of that person that loves to tell you how intelligent they are.

That provided some well needed catharsis. Awful.

There isn't one.

TV is subject ot ofcom and must be balanced and give time to each party relative to public opinions etc.

Newspapers have no such rule, there was going to be one but the Tories have said the plans will be scrapped in their manifesto.

There is the Independent Press Standards Organisation, and papers can be forced to correct mistakes...in a little article hidden away somewhere on page x.

I think the mask slipped and revealed the scaly, reptilian skin beneath. The public noticed she was an evil hell fiend with a heart of ice and took umbrage. She's just reacting to that.

Either that or someone threatened her eggs.

BID0 wrote:I was just clarifying your "paying but not paying" question.

If somebody already pays for carers/private healthcare/butlers then this new system that the Conservative government propose benefits them as they won't be using the NHS for elderly care and can avoid paying the state to support those who can't afford it by selling their estates.

So as satriales pointed out, it's the middle class that pay for it because they become the rich people that can.

Yeah but the middle class are paying for what they use. Same as low, Same a high (affected by Tory plan)

That was my point - the plan entirely misses out the cross subsidy - everyone ends up on a "pay as you go" style approach (until they hit the £100k floor)

So you seemed to be saying "they won't pay into a system that missus out the cross subsidy, because they already pay in a sway that misses out the cross subsidy"

I shouldn't have jumped in to the discussion sorry!

What? Why?

Because I#m not sure what the original argument was :slol: I think everyone is agreeing with each other?

Basically the Tory pan would see the richest get richer and create a bigger gap between them and the middle in society. Which is the root problem around the world to a number of issues, the top % has all of the money.

It's an L-turn. She was going to completely U-turn but got confused halfway through the manoeuvre and ended up in someone's garden.

I do like how the Tories justify things like "we have created a national living wage" by simply calling something by a specific term and insisting that's what it is. Like when they were accused of copying Ed Milibands energy price freeze, and they were like "nope, ours is a cap".

So today you have May changing the social care policy and insisting that it is exactly the same as in the manifesto. It's a very Trump like thing to do.

They've altered it in a response from polling that indicated it was unpopular among voters. Four days after it was announced. Of course it's a u turn.

I don't think it's full u-turn but how better do you phrase it? Backtracked? Softened her stance? A turn in the road?
