In preparation of Labour winning the election I'm currently listening to Corbyn's favourite band...

UB40: Under The Influence of Corbyn. Great album.

Looking at the poll, and bearing in mind the poll leading up to the referendum, it's quite clear that the opinions of GRCade are not even remotely representative of the country as a whole. I think we can therefore conclude that George Lazenby is the best Bond.

We are all quite young though and there are lots of older people in the country as a whole. Assuming we don't all change our minds over the next few years and that the oldies around the UK keep dying off, then it is only a matter of time before the country becomes more and more in tune with the views of GRcade and we should see Timothy Dalton crowned as King Bond.

It's a big turnaround for the Lib Dems on GRcade. The results of our 2015 General Election poll:

Conservative 22%
Labour 33%
Lib Dem 8%

UKIP 4%
Green 15%
SNP 11%
Plaid Cymru
1%
DUP 1%
Sinn Fein 2%
Independent 1%
Other (please state) 4%

Reading East

Reading East Constituency voters side mostly Conservative. You disagree with most Reading East voters on almost all issues, especially Domestic Policy and Healthcare issues. You might want to consider moving to one of these regions.

Oh dear

I just remembered that I have never not voted for the winner (in my constituency not the country!) whenever I have voted. Up until 2015 I voted Lib Dem and always ended up with a Lib Dem MP, in 2015 I switched to Miss Awesome Name and ended up with her as an MP.

I have no idea how Bristol West will vote this time, it’s likely to be either Labour or Lib Dem, so I am interested in this election mainly to see in if I can keep my awesome record going.

BBC News wrote:Theresa May has ruled out cuts to the UK foreign aid budget if she wins the election but doubts have been cast on other existing Conservative pledges.

The prime minister said the commitment to spending 0.7% of national income on aid "will remain" although it must be spent "in the most effective way".

It follows speculation [FROM THE DAILY MAIL] she was ready to drop it from the Tory manifesto.

But she declined to guarantee existing spending on state pensions which ensures a minimum 2.5% annual increase.

Meanwhile, Chancellor Philip Hammond has hinted that a pledge in the 2015 Conservative manifesto not to raise income tax, VAT or National Insurance before 2020 could be abandoned

What with budget cuts elsewhere, that lock on pensions can't stay, it's simply not fair.

Foreign aid budget. :fp:

That's 13 billion a year down the drain. Imagine using that to fund new social housing or fund cancer treatments currently deemed too expensive etc.

Imagine using it to make the world a better place in general for everyone.

The foreign aid budget doesn't need to be cut, but it does need to be spent smarter.

I'm guessing the triple lock will be culled, as will a lot of other things. Looking at private borrowing and indebtedness, combined with pricing prices we are going to see a significant slow down in consumer spending over the next few years and stagnant GDP. That's before you consider the negative impact of Brexit on trade after 2019, at which point a technical recession is quite possible. Assuming the Conservatives don't just completely throw their previous policy on the deficit out the window, there are going to have to be new austerity measures. The problem is they have already cut back on most of the unpopular areas so now things like pensions are the only place were much fat can be trimmed.

They have three choices:
1. Start borrowing a lot more (and eat a massive plate of crow as the "long term plan" is finally completely demolished)
2. Raise taxation (May would face opposition from her own party on this but she could easily get Labour support)
3. Slaughter sacred cows (pensions, which could devastate their voter base)

I would bet on either 1 or 3. There's a chance they might go for a borrowing spree and count on a friendly press to bury the news, I suppose. Government borrowing isn't something most voters notice and with Labour in the wilderness any accusations can be easily crushed under a tide of red top fury and character assassination.

I don't really have a problem with foreign aid - we're very fortunate, a rich country, and should help others when we can - but I do have questions about sending aid to countries with space and nuclear weapon programs, and countries like Nigeria...wealthiest country in Africa, highly corrupt, etc. Surely there are other countries in greater need. Think it needs re-distributing rather than decreasing.

It's highly possible that GRcade may hold another vote to determine help you decide who you vote for.

I don't think foreign aid should be cut. Maybe review where and how it is spent. But I think it's quite important.
