David Prowse's accent emanating from Darth Vader does stand out as peculiarly ill-fit!
But his contribution was significant too, by speaking the lines it meant the actors in scenes with him could directly respond and better act. His significant size added to Vader's imposing presence but he physically acted the role well too. I remember the first time I saw Return of the Jedi in his final battle scene, there's a part where he goes quiet and he's looking back and forth at Luke and the Emperor, no words said but I could see Vader was struggling! But Prowse's physique and James Earl Jones' voice - that's 100% lightning in a bottle.
He seemed like a good guy and engaged with the fans for years. Not everybody will remember the Green Cross Code man a uniquely British superhero! It was a big health and safety campaign that became ingrained in the psyche. I popped out this morning and came to a crossing for a fairly busy road and you know what I said to myself? Stop, look and listen.
RIP.
