Three days in to the new year and we already have a name on the list, not the greatest of starts that's for sure.

McRae, Schumacher and Block. Three motorsport legends who defied the dangers of their disciplines, only to be done in by horrible, unrelated and pointless accidents.

In regards to Schumacher and Block, this has underlined how I have no interest at all in doing any winter sports.

What's the best that can happen?

Didn't realise Jeremy Renner has had a near-death experience and is currently fighting in critical condition :dread:

Jeremy Renner apparently seems to have run over himself with a snow plow or something. Lucky to be alive.

First reports were it rolled over his leg, but it's now being revealed he received blunt trauma to his chest too.

Pretty horrific.

Blunt trauma to his chest sounds extremely grim. Paralysis I'd imagine.

David Leslie too, he was a big name in the btcc during the 90's and early 00's, only to end up killed in a plane crash.

Oh god, I didn’t know that. I was a big BTCC fan in that era. Winklehock, Tarquini, Harvey, etc. And my favourite, the fabulously grumpy John Cleland.

Richard Burns too, I know it wasn’t death by misadventure but to survive a career in WRC and be finished off by a brain tumour seems massively unfair.

I remember feeling the change of direction toward gymkhana and x games following Colin McRae’s death in DiRT 2 was a little insensitive. Ken Block was pretty much the face of that.

Will Hoy (another BTCC legend) also suffered from one and was taken too soon. :(
