Debuts: 12th October in the US. Starts Wednesday 13th May on Sky Atlantic. 10 episodes for the first season. Renewed for a 2nd season which starts 4th October in the US. Renewed for a 4th season which debuts 17th June in the US. Final 5th Season started 25th August 2019 in the US.

At once deeply observed and intriguingly elusive, THE AFFAIR explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah is a New York City schoolteacher and novelist who is happily married, but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law. Alison is a young waitress trying to piece her life and marriage back together in the wake of a tragedy. The provocative drama unfolds when Alison and Noah meet in Montauk at the end of Long Island.

Reviews

If it continues as it began, The Affair is poised to be truly amazing television: a breathless and enthralling story about the mutability of the past, the little cruelties of fickle memory, the larger cruelties of trying to determine truth, and the stories we tell about ourselves because we must.

Excellent writing, acting and an intriguing structural device make Showtime's 'The Affair' the new show to watch

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review ... iew-739993

It’s a series about the complications of life, relationships and especially perspective. It’s also the most innovative new TV series of 2014, especially from its fractured approach to storytelling.

http://www.post-gazette.com/ae/tv-radio ... 1410090317

As unnerving as it is erotic, The Affair promises to be a show to remember.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Weekend-TV- ... 87965.aspx

There aren’t many series at the moment quite like it or as good. It is as subtle and intrusive as “In Treatment” was on HBO, with some of the suspense and narrative feints that made “True Detective,” also on HBO, so addictive.

Previews

Should you watch? Yes. This is the best new show of the fall, hands down. And unlike past Showtime “best show of the fall” winners, like Homeland and Masters of Sex, which didn’t have much competition, the broadcast networks actually put up some good stuff this year. The Affair is just that good.

http://www.vox.com/a/fall-tv-2014-lineup-schedule-shows

The only scary thing about The Affair, which debuts October 12, is how good it is, right from the start.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s188/h ... treak.html

Am I hooked? Absolutely. This intelligent, well-cast drama isn’t just about cheating; it’s about subjectivity, and how we each see the facts in our own way. The acting is extraordinary, with the mesmerizing, cat-like Wilson — so creepily good on “Luther” — stealing the show.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/televis ... story.html

The show’s pilot is confident and compelling, with strong performances and a point of view that promises to explore not only the act of infidelity, but also the ideologies that intersect with that infidelity and the characters involved. At no point does the central affair or the show’s approach to it feel generic, a sign that there’s a story (or two or three) to be told here.

Showtime released the pilot early, it's up on their YouTube page now (VPN required) and available from your chosen high seas source.

That was excellent. Love the approach they're taking in relation to the differing perspectives. The entire cast is great but in particular I'd say Ruth Wilson could be serious contender come award season.

Very good start, I know I'm already in until it finishes. Maybe the differences in viewpoints of various incidents were a bit too much but some of that was excused by the undetermined (at least a year?) length of time since they met. But I liked the different storytelling structure.

Agreed that Ruth Wilson already has a very good chance of a Emmy nomination after only 1 episode.

Starts tonight in the US, although the pilot is already out.

Good 2nd episode. Like spotting the small and big differences between the 2 versions of the story plus the similarity's. Also the various small and big mystery's that have been hinted at.

Ruth Wilson has the most obnoxious mouth on television.

Big differences in the mutual stories this week. Weird that they both had the "don't wake up"sex. Seems like the restaurant boss died at a wedding and the child died of something like cancer.

Renewed for a 10 episode Season 2 - http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watchi ... ith-carrie

Been great stuff so very happy. Just about to watch the latest ep.

Edit: Another excellent episode, the stories were even more different this week. Lots of stuff to think about this week.

Shame and a bit bizzare that nobody seems to be watching this.

S01E09 -

Yet another excellent episode. Not a surprise the daughter was pregnant and who by. Superb stuff from Maura Tierney at the break up. I assume not much (major) will be solved in the finale next week.

Wow, an excellent finale to a very strong debut season. A lot of stuff to get into for the 2nd season.

I was so engrossed I burnt my dinner.

Season 2 spoilers - There's going to be Helen & Cole viewpoint episodes.
