Hmm. That...was. It wasn't good or bad.

The chap who said you could piece together the entire film from the released footage was right. Scarily so.(I didn't see a certain scene in there, so I'm thinking that might be the post credit stuff?)

The performances are all good. Andy G grates a little bit with his twitches/ticks, but they stop about half way through. No one is stand out, or even amazing, but they're all good. Martin Sheen and Emma Stone are the "best" of the bunch. The chap playing Conners does far better than the script would suggest.

It's weighed down by telling the origin again, admittidly it puts it's own spin on things, but at it's heart it's the same story (with one terrible difference in spoilers below).

The "untold story" doesn't really come out (maybe in future films?), so I really don't see what benefit it provides. And it just hinders the rest of the film which feels very rushed (despite a huge slowdown in the middle)

There's a potentially good movie buried under it, but...it doesn't come off.

It felt tired and turgid throughout. There was never any excitment or sense it was anything other than "people turn up, do their job well and cash their paychecks".

The swinging is aces though!

Spoilers!

Captain Stacy, whom Peter had met 3 times for a total of about 3 minutes does not have the emotional impact the end of the movie needed.

The worst thing for me was they strawberry floated up Peter's motivation so badly.

In every iteration Uncle Ben dies because of Peter's inaction. Peter learns with powers comes the responsibility to help people. The film even states this mantra (although not in classic form)./

In this Uncle Ben dies due to Peter's inaction. Peter learns to...manhunt the one chap across the city? The police even point this out. OK he brings in other criminals Everyone he's gone after is in a hunt for this chap. It's not about helping people it's about vengence. Eventually Cap Stacey mentions in passing that Spiderman is a hero, he's a manhunter that Peter changes after that, but only because he created Conners. There's never really a point when Peter learns the key lesson that makes him Spiderman

Loved it! I would say its better than the original trilogy, really like the relationship between pete and gwen look forward to seeing how they get on in future films

A couple of little nitpicks tho main one being the suit....it didn't look right to me at all in the beginning it looked like it didn't fit him properly and just had a general cheap feeling altho i did warm to it in the end

The next person to claim the first two films weren't good is getting a strawberry floating punch!

Exactly, I have no idea where this sudden hate for those films has come from! The first may have aged a bit but it's still good and the second is fantastic, one of the best superhero flicks ever.

This one seems to be getting a mixed reception.

seems to be gooseberry fool, great or meh depending on the viewer.

Definitely leaning to a DVD watch here and save the cinema trip for Batman.

The first 2 were good (SM2 is still one of the greatest comic book adaptations) but Tobey was an annoying Peter Parker

I enjoyed the first two, but rather than my opinion being tainted by the third film it's been tainted by the likes of the avengers films since those lot really showed people how to make a really really good superhero film.

Not a bad little short, despite all the Abrams lens flare. Shot in London too, so the SFX shots of NY near the end are pretty impressive for something which probably didn't have a large budget.

Should be going to see the real thing sometime this week.

Well just got back from seeing it...

What a non-event that was. Didn't hate it but never eally enjoyed it at the same time either - it was almost like the team behind it had never really read a Spider-man book in their life. All the little things they got wrong got on my nerves and it was constantly American blockbuster cheesy as well.

Disappointed, felt like it gave us nothing different in terms of what Raimi's Spider-Man gave us too.

I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan but i've read every issue of Amazing since about 92, but my friend who has been reading since the 70s was really down on it

It was okay. I didn't really feel any emotion, tension or general feeling from it though. Just a standard action film really.

Ok I think just about covers it... Nothing exceptional, but nothing god-awful aside from the cranes lining up to get him to Oscorp, REALLY?

All the major players did well, Garfield, Stone and Ifans (who in particular I enjoyed)... Kinda slumped in the middle but it sets a decent enough footing for the future sequels...

Pretty much agree with all this. Nothing compared to how good Avengers/Nolan's Bat films. Rushed by the studio just to keep the rights ala X-Men First Class only not as good. Emma Stone, as fit as she was (when you first see her in those tights/boots combo :datass: :datass: :datass: ), was just playing her usual Emma Stone character. Garfield was the best, actually made you believe he was a teenage nerd. Less said about Lizard and his cheap Joker/rapey smile the better.

And why they couldn't have just said "with great power comes great responsibility" instead of that silly speech saying the exact same thing just not those exact words. It's a classic phrase for a reason.

EDIT- will say one thing it has over the other marvel films, best Stan Lee cameo by far

Just back from seeing it. Garfield is excellent in the role and like HM said, Emma Stone is just playing the character she plays in everything else. Ifans was pretty good, but I still think the Lizard's face design was awful. Speaking of which, the villain is pretty much the only thing holding this back from being better than Spider-Man 2.

Such a shame Marvel don't have the film rights, Garfield's performance would fit in great with the rest of the cast. I can only imagine the banter between him and Thor or Stark

Oh, and the mid-credits scene was a bit gooseberry fool.
