Hate the animation style. Just utterly hate it. The podcast audio is gold but it looks strawberry floating atrocious.

Yeah but more often than not you're too busy laughing the house down to care about the so-so animation. Saying that, I love how Merchant looks like something out of the Bash Street Kids (on show not irl ).

Last time I watched this ep Ricky's impressions of Karl's mum made me laugh *so* *hard*.

Loved the latest ep, some brilliant lines. One of the few ones where I thought the animation actually made it even funnier.

They've been dating for over ten years.

Karl did say in the XFM days that if he ever won the lottery he wouldn't tell her as she'd want to go on loads of holidays and they'd break up.

Thing is, I've heard all the podcasts already. Watched a few eps of this to see if they'd done them justice with the animation only to see...that. Urgh.

It's not the 60's anymore and Hanna Barbara aren't "in".

So it should look like American Dad?

I quite like the animation tbh. I just assume people may not like it due to it's very retro feel. Well, that's my theory anyway.

No it shouldn't look like American Dad. I didn't know new animations had to copy an already used style.

I heard 'em a while ago and so I still laugh out loud at most episodes. Also I see the animation as an excuse to get the podcasts on television.

I enjoy the animation, sometimes it improves the comedy. This weeks hostage situation is a prime example.

I also enjoy how all the members of Karls family look.

Ricky Gervais has announced that he is to end animated series The Ricky Gervais Show and Sky1's An Idiot Abroad.

The comic revealed the news on his blog, adding that he is planning to focus on new projects such as a full series of Channel 4's Derek.

"So I don't think I'm going to do a fourth series of The Ricky Gervais Show," wrote Gervais. "39 episodes is more than I've ever done for any other project (Yes. I know that's pathetic but trust me.) and I don't want to push my luck.

"I think the show has steadily grown in both quality and popularity and I'd love to go out on a high so to speak. My worry is that as we've used up all the best material [from the original podcasts, so] we'd have to record hours and hours of new stuff and it might ruin the naivety of the whole thing. Never say never though.
"

Gervais explained that he and Karl Pilkington have also decided to wrap up comedy travel show An Idiot Abroad following two final specials.

"I think these could be the funniest adventures yet and I'd hate to outstay our welcome," he said.

The blog also stated that the Office and Extras star had "just finished writing the finale special" of BBC Two comedy Life's Too Short.

The Warwick Davis sitcom was expected to return for a second series, but it is currently unclear if Gervais also plans to wrap up that project.

"We'll film [the finale] after Xmas ready for broadcast around Easter," he wrote. "It's got lots and lots of Les [Dennis], Shaun [Williamson] and Cheggars!"

Gervais confirmed that he will now focus on a series of filmed audiobooks with Karl Pilkington, as well as six more episodes of Derek.

"[Derek] is my new baby, I must admit," he continued. "I've never been so in love with a project or character."

Say what you will about Gervais, he at least recognizes that shows shouldn't go on forever.
