Jam-Master Jay wrote:So, I power-read Blame! again over the past few days and I'd heartily recommend it. The first volume may be a tad difficult to get into due to very little dialogue and the few characters met being killed off very quickly but things soon change for the better with the second volume. While many people still meet a grisly end and the world continues to be pretty grim we're introduced to a number of recurring characters who really help move the story forward in an interesting way.

I guess it's time to start the Netflix movie next.

ah nice one ill pick it up.

Make a Rick & Morty thread, I'd definitely post there. It's one of my favourite shows. :toot:

You would only know if the translation is accurate if you actually spoke Japanese, which most people don't and it's not like Subs are always accurate...

Also, as I mentioned earlier in the thread the voice acting in some shows like Dragon Ball Super is gooseberry fool in Japanese. Goku sounds like an old woman! In other cases the dubs are really close, one of the reasons being that in some cases the directors actually chose the voice cast.

There's just no way you can say that all subs are better than all dubs.

I much prefer the original Japanese voices for Dragonball/Z/Super although they do a good job with the English dub for the most part. When Z was still airing over here there were a few episodes where Goku sounded like a surfer dude thanks to a different voice actor and it was downright terrible.

My problem with dubs is that the dialogue often sounds rushed so the performances feel devoid of any emotion and lacking in depth. There are also many examples of translations being completely changed and although subs (like scanlated manga) aren't always 100% accurate, they tend to be a lot closer to the original Japanese in general. For me, these flaws become far too distracting for me to actually enjoy the show or movie.

Edit: I think Dr. Stone has now overtaken Boku no Hero Academia as my favourite weekly shounen.

Will be watching final ep of Rurourin Kenshin tonight. SE 1 and 2 were fantastic. Unfortunately S3 has been all over the place. It's had weird enemies (Christians and Feng Shui masters) and other strange stuff happening before you expected them to. I'm still glad I watched it as it's now one of my favourite anime ever, and I'll probably be getting into the manga too to get the whole story/missed arcs.

Aside from things like Ghost in the Shell (original and various spinoffs), Akira, Cowboy Bebop, various Ghibli films and most recently Attack on Titan, I haven't seen much other anime that particularly appeals to me.

Does anyone have any recommendations based on the aforementioned stuff which I've enjoyed.

Seems like you're more an action guy. I'd recommend Gurren Lagann, or if you're ok with nfsw stuff Kill La Kill, made by the same studio, still has great fights and action but also much skimpier outfits.

I'm watching D. Gray Man and Initial D now.

Both pretty good

Three episodes into Kill la Kill, it's batshit insane and I love it.

Its like the gloriously crazy lovechild of Fist of the North Star and Sailor Moon (I love how my autocomplete followed the word sailor with moon).
