Fair point Ad. We probably should have drunk a good pinot noir with such perfectly barbecued food.

I'll know for Saturday.

It wasn't a real barbecue.

Broke out the BBQ again at the weekend, tried out a new ribs recipe and it was strawberry floating outstanding, definitely going to use that one from now on. It also looks like the good weather is gonna hang around until next weekend at least so Ill likely be cooking outdoors this week again. Good times.

We had a little barbecue at home yesterday despite the fact it was a bit chilly. Made sausages, burgers, chicken and pork chops. Twas decent.

I've just agreed to pay a landscaper to finish off the back garden, which will accelerate my BBQ purchase slightly.

I've weighed it all up and I'm gonna stick with charcoal like a real boy, I think. :datass:

Oh i had a BBQ on the 6th June, I had a lot of friends round to watch the champions league final and mixed it in with an excuse to have a BBQ in the afternoon. I got my charcoal BBQ out and cooked some awesome pork and apple burgers, some regular burgers and also these really brilliant tasting Sainsburys Sweet Chilli sausages. I'd never had them before but they have a really great taste with just enough spicy kick to them. That was my 2nd BBQ so far, i also had one in mid May and did some kebabs and BBQ'd a steak Brazilian style which is basically covering the steak in loads of olive oil, rubbing in lots of cracked salt and then just throwing it on the bbq until its cooked the way you like it. Simple but effective just how i had it in Brazil in February.

Pro tip: poach sausages in beer before throwing them on the BBQ, gives them a great flavour and helps ensure theyre fully cooked through.

Never tried that before, just any beer or are there any specific ones that work well.

I like a strong ale, even if youre not a fan of that kind of beer Id go with something like that, you get a more beery flavour coming through. Ill often use banana bread beer for it as well, its shite to drink but its got a different flavour that gives the sausage a little something extra. A black IPA also works well and if its a beef sausage youre cooking try a stout/porter.

All sounds good to me, cheers.

OK, I'm doing a family/friends BBQ for the gf's birthday this Sunday. Went with this in the end:

Image

It's not the last BBQ I'll ever buy, and I worry it's a bit spindly, but it has removable trays for the charcoal, and two halves so I can cook at different heights at the same time, so will do me for now.

I also bought a Weber chimney, as I've seen them used before and they are awesome.

Just trying to work out my menu - I've got the basics covered, but I'm after a real showstopper. There will be 12 people there. Any ideas? Spatchcock chicken is out as the mrs won't eat chicken off the bone.

Pulled pork and ribs are the 2 things everyone asks for when Im BBQing even though neither is actually cooked on a BBQ. Id go with those and have some beer poached hot dogs, burgers and chicken pieces for the grill. I never really cook steak on a BBQ cos I cant be arsed cooking it to everyones liking and everyone is full with all the other stuff anyway. If I wanna do beef Ill do a brisket or a huge flank steak and serve that up.

Also, what bear said.

Cool. Yeah, pulled pork would be a good shout. Fairly low maintenance, too. There's enough space on the BBQ that I could shred it/finish it off on a baking tray on top of the grill, I guess. Keep it vaguely authentic.

I'm already doing ribs - gonna cook em slowly then whack em on the bbq for the flavour at the end. I'm also gonna do some chicken tikka skewers. Discovered an amazing tikka paste recipe so that should be sweet.

Fancy something fishy, too - Jamie Oliver has these monkfish pieces on stripped rosemary stalks. Looks immense.

I like prawns on a BBQ if you can find the big ones. Either stick em on some skewers on straight on the grill if theyre big enough, beautiful.

Good shout, I might do those instead of the fish. Baste them in garlic butter.

Had some tasty bbq this week. Had one with slow cooked ribs cooked in the oven for a few hours with a Americans type rub. Then basted with homemade bbq sauce on the bbq to finish. Fell of the bone.

Also had a jerk chicken burger with coleslaw and scotch bonnet banana ketchup. Nice and easy to make and went great with the chicken.

Yesterday had bbq sardines and squid. Beautiful :D
