They allegedly didn't show much core stuff last year because that E3 was a very different monster to the one we knew and loved, they didn't feel it appropriate to stick core games in there. Now it's changed back, well, it's up in the air what they're going to show, isn't it? Other than Sports Resort, Red Steel 2 and such.

Did they actually say that? I've read both Iwata and Miyamoto saying that they see E3 as the main (only?) time non-gaming press really play attention, so it's the best time to ram all the "casual" content into the mainstream press. Miyamoto even said just after last year's E3 will never be like it was before, and they'll hold other things to appease "us" instead. They've recently said almost the exact opposite, so I think it's safe to assume we have no idea what Nintendo will do with this E3.

I reckon it could be like E3 two years ago where the main conference had people in tears and then they had that second conference with Brawl and other announcements which won everyone over again. This whole "BUT NINTENDO SAID WE WILL LOVE IT AND IT WON'T BE LIKE LAST TIME!" style talk I've seen around the 'net will almost certainly blow up in people's faces. Nintendo won't abandon the casuals, and it seems like some people are already expecting their E3 conference this year to be 100% "hardcore" focused, when it would be madness to have it like that.

They're announcing remakes of Gold and Silver about three weeks before E3 and if it was truly going to be "Nintendo stealing back the hardcore" then you'd imagine a "fan-favourite" announcement like that would be the perfect thing they'd hold back. Same with Pikmin 3, if that EDGE thing turns out true.

Remakes of Gold/Silver , first glimpse of a new wii Zelda, Pikmin 3 and Metroid Dread for DS will suit me nicely.

That was the best E3 ever, so much Nintendo goodness

Don't you mean three (or was it FOUR? ) years ago, when the Wii was unveiled? Miyamoto "performing" with Wii Music (or Wii Orchestra, as it was then known) as an announcement for the Wii was the best conference they've had recently. Everything about it was so new and exciting back then.

It's still alive, i can assure you. :)

:o

Are you an insider? Or are you just going off the "It's in the works" statement from a couple of years back?

I wouldn't say insider but i know some folks at IOI. They're still working on it there was talk some recruitment struggles which supposedly delayed development. The plan for IOI is, like alot of studio's, to work on multiple games(four games at the moment) and release a game each fiscal year (in the near future) I think we'll see this Ninja game this year, with Hitman in 2010 (we'll see a Kane and Lynch 2 as well and another unnamed game, which who knows, could be Freedom Fighters 2)

Square Enix should cancel all their other games and put them on Hitman full time. It's been ages since Blood Money. :(

Nah, I remember absolutely loving the Brawl year, every time I came to the computer it seemed something new had been announced, DS had a good year that time round I believe as well.

There was the Wii announcement year. Then the Brawl announcement year. Then two years ago, with Sonic being announced in Brawl at the secondary conference. Then last year. Have I added in a year? It doesn't seem like it's been four years, but I remember four conferences.

I've loved them all (except last year), but it was the first two Wii years that were my favourite. So much stuff was announced for all consoles.

E3 06 was the year Miyamoto came out and conducted Zelda

Just look at the opening 10 minutes, you get the first proper look at Wii Sports, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime, Red Steel, Excite Truck, Wario Ware and then the day after we got Brawl as well. Absolutely phenomenal. Also Zelda, how the strawberry float did I forget that.

There will never be a Nintendo conference as good as that again due to the policy of waiting before games are ready to show them. At E3 06 it was a perfect storm, Zelda had already been heavily delayed Mario and Metroid were due to come out soonish but got pushed back, Metroid especially, Wii would come out that Christmas so you had Wii Sports and Red Steel had to be shown as well.

Amazing stuff, I can't imagine an E3 from any company living up to that, just the way the industry works now and the way Nintendo has expanded it, it just doesn't make sense to do that.

This was also back when Reggie was awesome.

You've confused me now. Is that your favourite conference? That is the one I meant too, as it was 2006 which is three conferences (I said years, but I suppose it's more like four now.) ago. Was that the Brawl announcement year? I thought that was a year later! Did they have that conference THEN unveil Brawl the next day!?

As I recall, yes. It was a special year.

It has the unfortunate lingering effect of making every Nintendo conference to follow it seem pathetic. Nintendo will never achieve that level of greatness again at an E3, and certainly not in the eyes of the core gamer.

I did a quick Google to check and bizarely wikipedia have it down as being announced pre E3 05, which I knew couldn't be right. So yeah it was E306 Brawl was first shown. We also got first looks at stuff like Disaster Day of Crisis, Project Hammer, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Sonic, Pangya and a bunch of other games that all looked great Nintendo stuff at the time.

Hoping for big things from Rare.

Perfect Dark 2 and Killer Instinct 3 for 360. A hint at Banjo Threeie for later and Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini for XBLA

Alhough I'll be delighted with just Perfect Dark 2.

Perfect Dark 2 and an announcement that they aren't making KI3 will make my E3. I don't enjoy traditional fighters, so I want Rare to keep making games that I enjoy. Selfish, I know.

Future Cop L.A.P.D. 2 from EA would be nice. Won't happen though. :(

Also a new Red Faction FPS for the Wii, that'd be mega-awesome-cool.

I think we might see a Big N E3 on the scale of 2006 big blockbusters mixed with big casual games ie Wii sports resort. I think its going to be huge this year
