first lets get the facts out of the way about my april 1st post.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth IS FOR SURE coming to the new 3ds, WiiU and Xbox1 in the next few months.

there will be no content changes to the game whatsoever, it will be released as it did on pc, uncensored, as it should be.

- there will be no Scientology items added… the depth of that joke went way over far too many of your heads. FOR SHAME!

- the game will not be released for the old 3ds, only the new 3ds will run it, we worked on it for over a year and it looked/played horribly. it will only come out for the NEW 3ds system, WiiU and Xbox1.

- we dont have a hard date yet but it will be soonish.

Now on to afterbirth news!

for those that dont know Nicalis and i have been working on a very large dlc for rebirth for the past 2 months that we hope will be done by summer.

this dlc will add the following features

-100+ new items

-a new playable character (Lilith)

-a whole new alt path and game ending

-a whole new game mode that will greatly expand the game by 100+ more hours

-new alt floors

-tons new enemies and bosses

-a lot of new super secrets

-10 new challenges

-a butt ton of new achievements

-6+ new music tracks

-more poop!

Its a new fave of mine… THE FRIEND BALL!

i felt like charm effects were one of the more interesting additions to rebirth so i wanted to use them a bit more in afterbirth.

the friend ball will instakill any non boss enemy, trapping them inside the ball. then you can release the trapped enemy,now charmed to fight along side you for the duration of the room!

best item evar!? well one of the most fun for sure, its nice seeing who would win in a fight.. a globin or a knight?

Afterbirth will feature 8+ completely new tracks for your ears to chew on, a few of these being alt tracks for a new game feature ill talk about in a later post.

im really excited to release this expansion, im actually trying out a few things in the new game mode that will test the waters a bit for a possible isaac sequel i may do much later down the road...

I have played quite a lot of this over the past couple of weeks, I have unlocked a lot of the characters, but found out about a character called "The Lost" had a look up what you have to do to get him :shock: :slol: not a chance

That expansion seems crazy, I mean there is so much content in the game already, Certainly for £10 I have had my monies worth and then some

I unlocked him a few weeks ago and it's not actually all that difficult. If you just type it in to YouTube there's a fairly straight forward video with the best seeds for each requirement. Took me an hour maybe, if that.

I still can't believe I didn't pay a single penny for this game. Easily my most played title over the past 4 months. Hoping for a date for the expansion soon.

Beat The Lamb and ??? with The Lost on Hard within the space of 24 hours this weekend. Not even embarrassed to say I'm proud of this. 8-)

Impressive! I'm on about a -50 losing streak with The Lost at the moment. My last death was in the room before the Dark Room. I just sat their in silence for a minute, before turning the PS4 off and walking downstairs. Haven't gone back to it since. :lol:

What kind of sick runs did you have to manage that, by the way?

The only time I won with The Lost was with the Dead Cat glitch, which has now been fixed. :x

To be fair, I've been completely avoiding playing as him ever since. :slol:

First one was one of those beautiful runs where you become Guppy and have a high enough fire rate so that the flies you spawn murder everything in a few seconds. I think the longest boss on that run was Satan which took around twenty seconds from start to finish. The Lamb died almost instantaneously. :lol: The ??? winning run was just Dead Cat and Holy Mantle combo with some decent damage upgrades.

If you're not already, make sure you're playing on Hard, I've been told one of the final unlocks depends on it with The Lost.

If you picked up the Dead Cat (and maybe other respawn items) as The Lost, after getting hit for the first time, you'd respawn, but from then on you could get hit as much as you liked without dying. It made him invincible.

Aside from just being a great way to break the game, it will also protect against those unwanted troll bombs and also combo with more than a few items in afterbirth.

I only just found the chest stage. Did Isaac's dad leave because something was "wrong" with Isaac? (I'm thinking that because of the odd shadow behind Isaac/Isaac was casting in one of the photographs.)

but.. now i that i see people like just chance combos ive decided to go nuts and add 8 new transformations in afterbirth that i think will both cause rage and joy in your endless item combo hunts.

the Mom transformation is the most (possibly only) obvious one, so ill spoil some of it here…. but thats all you get!

Awesome. I try to go for the Guppy transformation every chance I get on account of how OP it is, so I can't wait to see what else Edmund comes up with. I thinking some sort of spider and man combination will be in there. Something catchy like Man-Spider perhaps?

Beat the Boss Rush with The Lost yesterday and tidied up the loose ends in the form of unlocks and challenges too. Just got to pick up five items I'm missing and Real Platinum God will be mine.

I played an endless game earlier and it threw up some fun combinations which resulted in a few interesting looking tears.

Loved the editing job on that. Nice.

I got the green explosion thing earlier :lol: It was great. I then lost it to a as powerful, but not nearly as fun, twin target painting missiles attack.

That power-up which gave you giant scythes/different tears per room, I got that on one of my first PS4 playthroughs. It was a lot fun but it's the only time I ever got the combo.

one of the more interesting features of afterbirths main game is “alt chapters”

as many of you know the game currently features alt chapters for each existing level set ie the basements counter part is the cellar. each alt chapter has its own set of levels, themes and enemies that are semi exclusive to it, i wanted to add more stuff like this with out muddying things up by actually making a full 3rd alt for each existing chapter set.

in afterbirth each chapter set will feature a variant that will go over the top of whatever theme you are currently playing.so regardless of if you are in the cellar or basement there is a small % chance that whatever level you are in will become a new afterbirth alt.

im not going to spoil them all but we will start with the first,the burning basement/cellar.

aside from how different this alt looks it also features many different changes.-there is a high % chance that many different enemies will become “flaming alts” all new level alts will feature modded stats and new attacks-there is a small % chance that rocks will become fire pits. these seem like minor changes but in a lot of ways these new alt levels will act as “champion” variations of levels, making things slightly harder but also raising the possibility of more reward.

each new alt will also feature new music, visuals and effects.

i hope you didnt get lost in that update.. because thats kind of what id like to address.

now many of you already know this.. but for those of you that dont, its been over half a year since release and i think its time to address a spoiler that has been the talk of the town for quite some time now, a very hidden character called The Lost.

The Lost was part of a small community ARG i had designed for rebirth long ago, it involved people who had unlocked the missing poster to kill themselves inside the sacrificial rooms while holding it. doing so would yield a puzzle piece visual in the death screen, the 100s of these said pieces each go to one of 4 puzzles of death screens showing a specific character, what killed them and where. it was then the community’s job to arrange these in the correct order, then die ingame the same way the puzzles describe.

doing all of this would unlock the most difficult (and rewarding) character in the game, The Lost, a character that has 0 life and cant ever be touched by any enemy without dying instantly… to balance this i gave him flying and called it a day :).

we had hoped it would take months for this to be found let alone completed, but within 2 weeks the game was hacked and the secrets publicly spoiled. as you can imagine i thought that was kinda shitty, but honestly i half expected it to happen, just not as soon as it did.

so that brings us to where we are today, we have this playable character that was supposed to be so buried and unknown that i designed it to be to be this ultra hard iron man mode for only the most hardcore players, with a community of such die hard completionists that i simply didnt expect would be so driven to 110% a game like this…

truth be told, i think the lost is probably the most exciting aspect of the game… ive been playing as him for the last week and having more fun with the game than i ever have before… the lost totally changes the game and makes you rethink every items power level.. and that’s just good game design…sadly not every aspect of the lost reflects this.

so what do we do? how do we balance the most difficult challenge in rebirth so that it feels as rewarding but also feels a bit more fair… here are your options.

-The Lost starts with the D6 + speed up

-The Lost starts with the D6 + spectral tears

-The Lost starts with the D20 + speed up

-The Lost starts with the D20 + spectral tears

-The Lost starts with the D4 + speed up

-The Lost starts with the D4 + spectral tears

i personally think any of these edits will push the lost from an optional challenge most people dont want to admit exists to a more realistic challenge i think players will have a lot more fun diving into. please take the time to vote on reddit, tell me what you think about these changes. the lost is a community character and i really want to listen to the community when it comes to what changes will make you want to take the plunge into my personal favorite character in the game.

speaking of a challenge, were you aware that a few days ago wrath of the lamb got a free update that features quite a few fixes to the main game as well as a new optional “hard mode” (that should probably be renamed to Trololololol hell mode).

a few months back i got a message from florian saying he came up with a new champion alt to a boss he wanted me to check out. he got a new pc and was able to reopen the old isaac fla, and even though it still took ages to export a non broken swf he was still able to work in it again and was fiddling with alternate mega hard bosses that we called “eternal bosses”.



this casual mod turned into florians little passion project for the next few months, his goal… to make the most challenging and trolly version of isaac ever… and i think he succeeded in doing so.

now i wont say i think this mode is the most balanced thing in the world, because it is not, even in the slightest, but as an optional mode for an old game i thought, what the hell im sure there are more than enough sadists out there who like to be toyed with.

honestly though there are more than a few additions florian added that i think are quite interesting, and even though the hard mode isnt for everyone i think any isaac fan will get a kick out of just how randomly ridiculous some of the new additions are.

so if you own wrath of the lamb, knock the dust off it, lube up and give florians “strawberry float You Mod” a ride!

and finally, i did a little 2 hour interview with TinkTink recently that i think some of you will enjoy. i haven’t done an interview in a while so excuse my rambling!

honestly im not sure, at this point its even hard to remember due to the fact that so many enemies have new alt forms and more than a few have level alt forms as well (like burning fatties/walkers/leapers etc). but here is one of my personal faves, mostly due to how they look.

in the coming months rebirth will be released on Xbox 1, WiiU and the new 3ds. the guys have been spread quite thin when it comes to this + afterbirth dev, but as soon as they get time there will be a new rebirth update featuring a big change from last weeks post.

The Lost will now start with Spectral Tears and the D4. (no visual changes though)

for those of you who haven’t unlocked the D4.. here is a spoiler! it rerolls all your current items!

giving the lost spectral tears was a no brainer from the start, i was honestly confused why i didnt have him start with them from the start seeing as he is a ghost… but anyway yeah, thats happening. but when it comes to the D4 there were a few reasons why i decided to go that direction.

-Isaac already holds the D6, i hate redundancy in characters.

-the D4 is essentially the D6 but with a much stronger and random special effect the D4 makes for more interesting runs that push risk reward when it comes to when to take the gamble as well as the pull to"clear a few more rooms" to see what you might become.

-thematically the D4 works for the lost, because like isaac and ??? he is a foundational “isaac” who hasnt found himself.

i REALLY enjoy the Lost’s design and want to push him to the masses as an important piece of the puzzle (and the isaac trinity) so i hope those of you who haven’t unlocked him or 110%ed the game due to his difficulty will give him another go once the update is out.

i think most isaac players have leveled up quite a bit, so also expect some actual rewards (as well as visual progression) for some optional game goals in afterbirth.

But what else will this update include? personally id like to fix a few issue that might remain or re-balance a few things? (like making sure the d4 doesnt reroll into milk ) but what should we fix? what needs fixing? im not talking what new content you want to see or features, but is there anything else you feel could use some attention/balancing/fixing in rebirth currently?

tell me your thoughts on this Reddit thread and upvote the ones you want to see most because that gooseberry fools bound to get a bit crowded after a day or so.

next week we might talk music.. new level features? high scores? who knows!?

What were your last 5 items, out of interest? Can't remember how many I need, 10-15 I think. The most recent one I found was Cain's Other Eye.

I remember in vanilla Isaac the last item I found was the Parasite. Such an amazing item yet it took me close to a hundred bloody hours to finally see...
