Anything that would unlock something in the rest of the game doesn't count either.

As I found out, after wasting a good waste of 20 minutes battling that extra boss.

Is anyone finding this doesn't really hit the spot in the same way it did before the DLC? There's seem to be so much in the game that seems purely to spite the player more than anything.

Mind you, the ridiculous requirements to 100% the game now probably aren't helping my enthusiasm.

Yeah there's some real dick moves. Main one being item rooms with spikes/rocks surrounding the item. That's not an added challenge, just a strawberry float you.

Completely agree on the whole 100% thing too. Getting Platinum God in Rebirth was bad enough, strawberry float beating the other gooseberry fool with The Lost.

It's worse than that. You have to beat everything with everybody. All on Hard Mode.

When you combine that with the horrible small room boss fights, the way Curse rooms are no longer worth checking and horrible health scaling on the extra boss fights, I can see why some people thought Edmund had it in for the playerbase, rather than it being an accident.

Yeah it does seem a bit off, I still like it, but not as much as I did before.

Finally, some luck as ??? - I have the item that turns back time, and the ? Card, which means I can basically use the item infinitely and therefore I'm essentially invincible.

Going to the Blue Womb or trying to play Greed mode crashes the game with the latest patch.

Avoid.

Apparently that might be intentional, something to do with the ARG currently going on in the community. Sucks for anybody that doesn't really care about that and just wants to play the game but what can you do.

So the ARG has been solved, and a new character has been added via a patch. Not sure how to unlock it yet...I still have a shitload of stuff to do before I get to the Afterbirth uber secrets.

Based on what I've played, you're not missing out to a huge degree. While there's a good game in there somewhere, it's got some stuff changed that makes the game less entertaining overall. Edmund seems to be aiming to please the hardcore crowd who can go every floor without getting hit and it's result in the game being less fun.

I just can't be bothered to play it most the time.

I was like that, got back into it this weekend. Managed to get a few things done, worked out how to get the Bluewomb, and finally managed to get a run with decent DPS and a big key to do Mega Satan (I had done him before the expansion, but it was not recorded back then)

If you do not want to know about how to unlock the new character do not read.
I have seen to unlock the new character you have to donate 999 to the Ultra Greed machine, that is just a total jackass move, I mean that will take forever, I never have many coins left when I get there and I normally drop what few I have on the fight. sigh

Zartan wrote:Edmund had a Reddit post about the missing stuff, seems reasonable, bit confused about the storm it seems to have caused, even if it was deliberate, it was not awful, and it was all sorted inside a week

im sure most of you read my tweets explaining what happened with the latest updates addition of missing items. you can believe what you want, but i assure you most of the misconceptions causing issue revolve around stuff i cant address yet as well as random chance and the fact that we probably shouldn't have tossed the update up on he 109 hour when it was done on 108.. we thought we were having fun with your obsession with the number 109 but in the end it imploded and i woke up to the most confusing and jaw dropping barrage of tweets ive ever seen.

the basic facts: (there will some holes that will be filled in on a later blog post )

the missing items were tied to a bug and a few other launch build issues and not at all intended to be missing from the game.
we werent aware of the missing items at all for a few days after launch, thought they werent found yet or locked, it wasnt till i started testing with my debug steam copy that i saw that quite a few items were just gone from the game completely.
i tried to address this without breaking the 4th wall on twitter and even showed 2 items so people knew the game for sure features 120+ but it ended up sending people down another path that i tried to stop by tweeting for people to not assume anything.. but the snowball kept rolling
everyone was off for 2 days after the launch and day 1 patch so there wasnt anything we could do till tuesday.
we had the patch fixed roughly 1-2 hours before we put it up but thought it would be fun to post it on the day associated with the donation machine bug that people seemed obsessed over so people didnt lose interest in exploring the unknown... hoping that people would see the 109 hour as more of a start of something than finish.. but sadly we all know how it ended.
i really didnt care that much about the datamining and honestly dont see it at as an issue at this point.. i like to joke about stuff that ive find annoying or disheartening and it comes through really bad via text.
im not remotely a petty person, i know you dont know me personally but its just not at all something in me.. and i sure as hell wouldnt attempt to strawberry float over a fan base.. i mean gooseberry fool i made this dlc with the fans in mind, 10-15% of the games content was made by you guys.. its just illogical to think i would try to upset or lie to a group of people i reach out to for feedback and ideas.

anyway like i said, the small holes in this story (that i know for a fact more than a few of you know the reasons for) will all be addressed in a postmortem of what i can almost call a social experiment at this point will eventually see the light of day.. one day.

again thanks for those of you who are logical and have become the voice of reason in a few of these threads, you guys give me hope.

i realize that quite a few of you feel slighted by large companies when it comes to content and manipulation.. but not everyone is the devil dudes and sometimes you find what appears to be logical in simple coincidences.

-Edmund

PostRe: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth |OT| AFTERBIRTH+ OUT JAN 4TH
by Dangerblade » Thu Dec 22, 2016 8:49 pm

so uhhhh there's some stuffs going on

First of all, a huuuuuge fan-made mod was released earlier this week, Antibirth.

Five years ago, a young boy took his first trip down into the basement, facing the endless threats below to escape from the murderous delusions of his loving mother. Three years later, he found himself facing the same predicament but with an even greater plague of horrors and peril. Very shortly afterward, a modest few among us decided that even this was not enough. In the two years since then, fate has worked tirelessly to place by far the most fearsome challenge yet in his path. This time, Isaac will face our free and fan-made The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth expansion, Antibirth. So what exactly is in store for him?

2 new characters with unique playstyles
90+ new collectible items to help Isaac fight
18+ new trinkets to swap and strategize with
80+ new enemies to face one after another
16+ new bosses to kill or be killed by
4000+ new rooms to explore and survive
A new secret final chapter for Isaac to endure
Bigger and greater secrets than ever before
Several new or enhanced features for local cooperative play
A nearly full and original new soundtrack, evocative of classic Isaac

The Binding of Isaac has had one of the most involved and robust communities of fans around since its initial release and has inspired countless players and developers with its peculiar sensibilities and creative blend of roguelike flavor. As its zealous modding community has proved, it’s only natural that many among us would feel the urge to try to help carry the torch and make it partly our own, but Antibirth was the first and is presently the only Isaac mod to reach deep into the core of Rebirth to enable the depth and scope of a full expansion, aspiring even to the size of the official DLC, Afterbirth. If you’ve become as enraptured with Isaac as the rest of us and you still want more, we’re here to provide our absolute best — and more of it than you’ve ever dreamed of — all for free.

Download it here

It has Ed's blessing and may even come over officially once the modding tools of Afterbirth+ are available.

Speaking of which...

for those of you who are blind, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ will release Jan. 3rd 2017 on steam! ( console release date Spring 2017)

The expansion will be: $9.99.

but for the first week of release people who own afterbirth will get afterbirth+ for a mere $6.66!

features:

- full access to mod tools ( so you can design, edit and play and endless number of mods, features and whole new games that the community will no doubt eventually design.. )
- 67 new items, 27 new trinkets and 10+ new pickups! (hows that for specific huh!?)
- a new final chapter! (yes i said chapter)
- a new final boss!
- a new playable character!
- a new “greedier” greed mode!
- a gooseberry fool ton of new achievements!
(62 to be exact)
- 5 achievement “challenges”!
- 100s of new rooms!
( tons of new ultra rare rooms )
- new victory lap feature! (allows the game to continue when finished)
- bestiary! (enemy collection page that keeps track of everything you kill in game)
- 5 new challenges!
- 2 new transformations!
- small monthly content updates!
( every month after release we will be updating the game with our favorite fan made designs, monsters, items maybe even challenges? who knows… i may also toss a few of my own modded designs in if you are good!)
- 4+ new bosses and a new alt forms for existing bosses!
- a handful of new enemies, features and new champion forms!
- new cut scenes and music tracks!
- other stuff im forgetting because i cant keep track of anything in this game at this point.

so basically what you are looking at is a slightly smaller afterbirth expansion but with mod tools that potentially make it 20 times larger! im honestly quite excited about what the community will end up making and even more excited to make some of it totally official in Isaac!
