I've only played it once but it's very similar to Pandemic in its mechanics and seems easier.

Is it pretty easy to learn and do you reckon I could teach my mrs how to play?

It's got a lot of rules to take on board initially but not loads. It has tutorial scenarios to ease you in as well. I don't know your Mrs but I'll say yes.

I bought Tabletop Simulator the other day. Seems a bit fiddly, but shows a lot of promise.

I went along to a local board game meet up today. It was a lot of fun. People were really nice, and got to try some new games. Had my first experience with One Night Ultimate Werewolf, and that was a definite highlight.

'Survive' was pretty good. Got my boats destroyed on the first round, yet somehow managed to win.

'Mysterium' was bloody strange. Too slow and abstract for my liking.

'Sheriff of Notingham' was okay. I was pretty successful at the bluffing, but it played really slowly.

I made a simple game of 'Shut the Box' on Tabletop Simulator...

My Amazon copy of Cosmic Encounter finally turned up today. Apparently it's un gioco di Bill Eberle.

Hang on a minute. :x

I've not but I've seen it in a few games shops and it does look like a money pit.

Pretty much this - what you get for the price is not really worth it to me. It's a much heftier initial outlay (£75ish), but you could look at Star Wars Imperial Assault:

It's basically Descent with lightsabres, but that looks a lot more self-contained and less exploitative in the long-run.

I've got say, even with just the core set of a couple of tie fighters and an x-wing, it's a whole lot of fun. I'd definitely recommend it as long as you've got the self control not to buy a whole rebel fleet. Got my eye on an A- Wing already though. :fp:

Me and a friend now have two base games, a Y-Wing, Z-95, Tie Advanced, Imperial Aces and Rebel Aces. All the ships. :datass:

The Ion Cannon though? God it kicked ass in the game I played earlier.

Been reading up on the Blood Rage kickstarter, it looks like a pretty cool game and a fair bit simpler than Zombicide, also I like the fact that you're competing against other players. For $75 you get the game plus all the stretch goals which seems like a pretty good deal as there's a lot of them.

Wouldn't come until at least September though and I've never backed anything on kickstarter though so not 100% sure.

Has anyone here looked at the game?

Damn, that looks pretty cool. I'd be tempted to back it, but bear in mind the extra shipping costs etc.

Yeah always shipping costs on kickstarter. Was looking at backing the Ghostbusters zombicide looking game until the shipping added another £35 on top.

Played a brilliant 'Great Escape' scenario in Zombicide today and also played a number of games of Marvel dicemasters which was good fun.

Yeah I looked at the shipping, it says it's only $15 in Europe and they have a base in Germany.

The Book Depository have Marvel Dice Masters X-men Starter Set for only £8.74 delivered.

I've been looking to buy for a while, and had to bite at that price.

you can get the AT-ST for £15.

It's a lovely little model, might buy it just for display.

I've started to host a games night at my place and need some suggestions on games to play. They essentially just need to be party games we can have fun with rather than something serious where we're going to be sitting around for four hours just playing one game. At the last one we had Taboo, Articulate & Cards Against Humanity. Does anyone have any suggestions of what else can be added to the rotation? I was looking at Absolute Balderdash, can anyone recommend that?

Dobble
Munchkin (pick a version that has a theme you all like/can tolerate)
Fluxx (the monty python version is hilarious)
Murder of Crows
Superfight
Gloom
Forbidden Island/Desert

Really getting hooked to Hanabi at the moment, a fun co-op game where you need to lay cards in a sequence but you can't see your own cards so rely on information from others to either discard or place your card. Anyone else played it, my best score is 21 at the moment.

+1 for Dobble, can play with a large group and never really gets old. Its also pretty quick so its a nice refresher game if people are getting burned out from a long gaming session.

Bohnanza is pretty good too, it takes a bit of explaining and people can be hesitant about a bean farming game but its a lot of fun when you get into the swing of it.

Ive played it a couple of times, think we got to around the 20 mark as well, its good but theres always some leeway with the rules when its all against the game. It can be a lot of fun watching everyone try to remember the info they were given and why they were given it.

Also stuff like Avalon/the coup/resistance; basically AYAW but played much quicker and with different themes.

Thanks for those suggestions, knowing the crowd I play with Fluxx & Dobble seem like the two best options. I'm tempted to go with Superfight! too as that looks right up my ally, I just fear my friends aren't nerdy enough for it.

Skull and Roses (though the most recent edition has been renamed Skull http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/92415/skull), a push your luck auction game with plenty of bluffing. Quick to play and loads of fun, got in trouble with hotel security once because we were laughing so much playing it.

Also if there's 7 or 8 of you then Shadow Hunters (can do it with less, but best with this many and doesn't really work with 4) http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/24068/shadow-hunters. Secret role game where players are split into either good or evil teams who have to defeat each other but there are also some neutral players who aren't part of either team and have their own separate victory objectives. At the start of the game your identity is secret so nobody knows what side the other players are on so you have try and figure out who is on your team before you accidentally kill them.
