Yeah X wing has defined cards but it's very addictive once you start buying expansions.

Destiny is like sticker albums, you keep buying packs in hope of that rare (shiny) card. Like the original loot box. True money maker for someone like me with an addictive personality.

May have just bought a load of X-Wing miniatures to try and build up my two squads (including the Moldy Crow  Was so tempted to get the Outrider too but I went for the Heroes of the Resistance set with the Falcon and Poe's X-Wing). Don't think I'll be able to use them all in one game but it'll give us a bit of variation. Will check out the squad points thing when they all turn up!

Love x wing but it's a dangerous hobby financially.

I'd highly recommend getting the ghost if you want a fun and versatile rebel ship. And the decimator is a fun imperial ship with a lot of good upgrades.

I havent bought much of the later stuff but I have most of waves 1-9

Star Trek Ascendency

Bought this on Choas Cards when was about 50% off. Big Trekkie, and have enough board game chums (lots of whom are Trekkies) to play (you have to have 3 with the base set).

I then got drunk and pre-ordered the BORG expansion. Which adds an NPC faction, and makes the game 1-2 player friendly).

Tried it solo (first game) last night. The BORG stomped me proper (understand what I did wrong though).

It works pretty well - although outside of the Borg it felt thematically quite light. It's a 4x game with Star Trek Flavour Text (which to be fair is what it says it is).

It feels more complex than it is - pretty much everything basically comes down to rolling dice, there's just a list of different modifiers to apply. It makes sense as you play it (part of the reason for a solo run was to practice before taking it out to other people) glad I did so.

I don't think there's much life in it as a solo game (I'd play Arkham LCG happily solo, but can't see myself playing this solo again, beyond practicing rules).

If you've got a 4x game (Xia for instance) it's hard to recommend getting this as well for it's price. If you're looking for one (especially if a Trekkie) this is worth keeping an eye out for.

So I got Star Wars destiny starter sets for Xmas. Oh my... there goes my wallet!

Fantastic game and so thematic but most importantly it's fun and pretty quick to play. I can see how the collectible nature of expansions will alienate some but for me it brings back memeories of collecting stickers, opening packs and hoping for a rare or shiny.

Plus the chunky dice are actually really nice!

I've been eyeing it up for months so I won't solely blame you

My wife and I just destroyed the first campaign scenario in Arkham Horror LCG. My parents bought me The Dunwich Legacy for my birthday.

Time for a post-christmas "games we haven't played in at least a year/ever" clear out, looking to shift the following to start with, prices open to debate:

B-Sieged: Sons of the Abyss (with kickstarter backer physical tokens/alternative model casts/tons of extra characters):
Image

Origin (its a bit like Takenoko but with tribes of people and lovely wooden pieces)

King of Tokyo (original run with Powered Up! expansion)

How much for King of Tokyo? What kind of condition is it all in?

Scenario 1 off base campaign? Well done

You know the TDL box is just the start of that campaign right? You need the 6 method packs for the full campaign

Yes to question one. Can't wait for scenario 2. And no to question 2, I had no idea.

The core set has 5 investigators, loads of cards for decks and scenarios, 3 scenarios that form a campaign

The boxed exspansions (Dunwich and Carcosa so far) come with 5 investigators, more cards and 2 scenarios that start campaigns.

Each campaign then has a cycle as they release the rest of it as cheaper small Mythos packs. These contain the scenario cards (you may also use monsters from boxes) and a small amount of player cards.

So each campaign (after core) is 8 scenarios.

Here’s the first pack of Dunwich

https://www.chaoscards.co.uk/other-card ... um-p142995

Dunwich is a good campaign - does lots of things mechanically interesting. Well beyond the Core set.

There’s also 2 standalone (Carnival and Rougarou) that are packs with a single stand alone scenario in.

I got 7 wonders for Christmas and enjoyed that very much. I like how it's largely "do your own thing" and that if you lose its not specifically because of someone. I lose soooo many friends playing Catan because of that...

So my Heroes of the Resistance set turned up yesterday (noticed it comes with pilot cards for both Nien Nunb and Jess Pava in the X-Wing  ), but the rest of my order for a few imperial ships doesn't even seem to be in stock at the site I ordered it from :( Will be a long wait before I can actually play it, I think!

What's the deal with this Star Wars Armada game I keep spotting, too? Is that like a... larger scale version, so it's more Star Destroyers and big ships rather than X-Wings and Tie Fighters? Would be miffed if I started investing in X-Wing just when they all moved on to something else :shifty:

It's capital ship to capital ship combat (with squads of fighters). But is more slower - with bigger ships planning tactics turns ahead (change speed, focus fire etc) - and then every turn you move then shoot.

E.g. Star Destroyers have to plan key actions 3 turns ahead, frigates 2 turns ahead, fighters turns move.

I like it - but it's a) much more costly (ships are £15-30 quid) and b) a "bigger" game. Ships have many many more dies, tokens tactic cards, defense tokens etc.

While it looks similar, X-wing is much quicker, simpler and easier to play. It's a "lighter" game (not meaning to disrespect it!). There's no nimble U-turns in this. Games only last 6 turns as well, but that can be a couple of hours :)

I like both, but committed to Armada. I don't think there's a lot of cross over between players since the games are quite different.

FFG seem to be supporting both (they have regular new waves) - but X-Wing (at least based on Brum convention) seems to have much more market penetration.

There's also the fact it's easier in X-wing for you to have enough stuff for both players (you don't need to but you can) whereas with Armada people tend to pick a side and spend - because it ain't cheap. (The core starter set lets you build IIRC 100pt feets. The game is really built for 300-400pt fleets)

Ahhhh, gotcha. Thanks Hexx  Sounds a bit heavier than X-Wing is! Not sure I’d be able to convince any of my friends to play it if the game lasts a few hours! :P
