Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride play well with only two players too.

I'd add Hive and Hanamikoji to that list too. Those were two I'd bring to board game meetups to save latecomers from having to wait 30 minutes for a game to start.

They're probably two of the only games my girlfriend can stand to play.

I only ever played the iOS version but me and my friends really enjoyed it.

Been playing the Dark Souls board game all afternoon. It definitely has a major problem in its loot system but it hasn't stopped me clocking hours and hours into it. I just really like playing it when I'm on my own and no one wants to play with me. My assassin and knight are pretty powered up now so I'm ready to tackle scenario 2 of the first campaign when I get the mood to play again.

I was going to play that.

But the guy who owns it and asked me broke his femur mopeding in Vietnam 3 weeks ago and can't fly home.

Why does everything bad happen to me

Played the Pandemic Finale last night. Needed anything but an epidemic card to draw on my turn to win the game. 12 months of strategising, risk-taking and arguing distilled down to flipping a couple of cards...








Drew a red card





And an epidemic. The audible cries of anguish across the table will be one of those gaming memories that will last a lifetime.

Pandemic Legacy - May 1

That went hilariously wrong. Worst game of Pandemic ever and it was over in just seven turns from outbreaks.

Here's a shot of our board at the end. DO NOT OPEN if you haven't already played May of the game.



Edit - Oh strawberry float, just realised we played the new rule slightly wrong so I don't think one of the outbreaks should've happened. Oh well, no reversing it and the USA would've likely still killed us off.

I'm now the proud owner of Twilight Struggle. Just need to get my wife to let me teach her how to play a game of it now.

I really like the history pages in the back of the manual. Really good bit of info.

It's really good and there's some great strategy in it. It's perhaps easiest to learn with the video game on Steam or as an app

Yeah I've put 30 hours into the Steam version recently and I like it so much I just had to have a physical copy.

Just lost a game of 7 Wonders Duel to my wife so she's winning 2-1 now.

I could've actually won with a science victory but I kept forgetting that I'd researched economy, so when the final science building became available, I didn't have enough gold to actually build it. Was a really exciting game and I was beaten by 17 points in the end which seems like quite a beating.

Really going to miss this game

Has anyone else picked up Santorini? It's become my new favourite game. So simple to play yet so strategic.

Had us second game of Curse of Strahd tonight and I love it already so much. Strahd has already revealed himself to us. My character actually stood up to him and, oh my word, out of character I was sitting myself. It's so awesome though. Can't wait to see what happens. Think a few of us suspect that Strahd is going to be a bit like the Mohawk dude from Far Cry 3 and it'll turn out that his God is the big bad. But yeah, it's so tense right now.

The DM has also worked my character's family into the story so I'm essentially Alex Shepard from Silent Hill Homecoming

Had a games night for the first time in a while and played some new games. Agricola which is themed on making your own farm, I really enjoyed. Seemed complicated at first but once you've had a play through you really understand it. Think you can make it more complicated and play campaigns as well.
Hanabi was nice and simple, quick to play and makes you use your memory in a cooperative game.
And Tokaido which was a nice simple point scoring game about a journey along a road in Japan with some surprising depth in strategy

Had our first game of quirkle tonight, great fun.

I like the way it's like a few games rolled in to one. Also the titular quirkle being an option really makes for a great secondary strategy element - do you put a bit down to get 5 on a line, risking your opponent (6 times in one strawberry floating game to be exact ) then capping it off as a quirkle, or hold that bit until you get the other to do it yourself, risking them doing the same.
