I really want to get that at some point. The way you've described it makes it sound amazing.

Got Mysterium today which was one of my birthday presents from my wife.

FatDaz wrote:So I finally got around to playing Star Wars rebellion. It's a long game (about 3.5 hours) for first game (after 20 minute set up). It's absolutely brilliant. It really captures the feel of Star Wars in every way. I was empire and had overwhelming military force, my Star destroyers occupied half the map I destroyed Yavin with the Death Star and I had troops subjugating a dozen planets. I felt invincible....

But dammit I couldn't find the rebel base and time was getting away from me. He was fortyfting Naboo and I was convinced it was his stronghold. I managed to capture obi wan using darth Vader and convert him to the dark side using palpatine which narrowed down his rebel base location. It was either Naboo or Endor. He had nothing on Endor so I was confident...

He bluffed me! After battling my way through his ships and ground troops it wasn't there! I had fallen for the "trap" and with only 2 rounds left I didn't have time to get to Endor. The rebels won despite having next to no ships or troops left!

Honestly it was one of the most fun games I've played. Pretty simple rule wise despite its complex appearance. Combat is a little messy with lots of ships but you can get past that because if you love Star Wars you really feel part of the story!

That's a proper quick'un!

Yeah, looked the look of Rebellion but that game time is just too long. Not for me, but I think I'd really struggle to find a partner.

Yeah it's tough to find time, I have a few friends who enjoy it but you need to set aside a whole afternoon. Worth it though even if it's not played that often

I've only played it twice - once with a group of board game friends for the day, once with long term game/Star Wars friend for an afternoon at his place

Sorting another out at the moment

I can't wait to try again as rebels. On paper I thought empire would boss it but it's surprisingly well balanced. I felt in control for 80% of the game but as it went on the tide turned and the rebels took over as I panicked.

The asymmetry works beautifully

Played first game of Twilight Struggle and managed to make it to the last turn. USA had control of Europe but the USSR was way ahead on the victory points. Gambled on a dice roll to try and claw some victory points back but lost. Probably wouldn't have made it to the end of the turn as there were 3 scoring cards in our hands.

Really liking Celestia. Like a far better version of Inc an Gold. There's some interesting decisions to be made when you jump off the airship and when you stay on. The fact you ate locked in when you are captain becomes a real bugbear as you then have to wager on if you can survive two turns. The telescopes also can be game winners but only if used at the right moment.

Spyfall is just gonna be one of those great versatile games I can use all the time. It's already made me laugh several times in just a few plays.

I played Scotland Yard over Christmas for the first time.

It's a pretty cool game, but the rules need to be changed to make it more difficult for the player who is Mr X...

Once the official rules are adjusted, then it makes for some close games and is a lot of fun!

As for New Years Eve, I'm planning some sessions of Ticket to Ride - another cool game :D

Arkham Horror LCG.

Scenario 2.

I managed to avoid seeing the backs of the cards during setup, so when the Agenda advanced it was a real "Oh SHIIIIIIIT" moment. strawberry floating glorious.

I like how balanced it is for different player numbers, too. Key target numbers are multiplied by the the number of people, so you don't end up with the LotR LCG's problem of progress requirements that are virtually impossible for a single player to manage.

We misread how to apply Doom during this one so every time a token was added to an acolyte we left it there for the whole scenario (instead of, as you're supposed to do, removing all doom after the agenda advances). This meant our try lasted about 10 minutes and ended with no Cultists scored and we hit midnight. No spoilers, but the third scenario was all but impossible after that.

Second try I did it solo and got two cultists. Need to start a second playthrough actually, especially as the expansion is due soon.

Anyway, got my first campaign of Imperial Assault coming up on Wednesday. Decided to have a go at making the models look a bit better:

Happy with the droids and ATST, not so much with the stormtroopers (which were, to be fair, my first ever go, and I haven't finished the gunners). Bloody expensive hobby though...

They look pretty good. I'd love to get into Imperial Assault, but nearly £100 for the base game is eye-watering, never mind the expansions.

No, I've just gotten into the far cheaper ( :slol: ) X-Wing Miniatures instead. Got the starter pack and Imperial Aces will be arriving tomorrow. :datass:

I really, really want to order Rebellion right now but I really shouldn't spend £70 plus on anything immediately after Christmas :dread:

It's a dangerous addiction. I have spent more on x wing than I dare think (or let the wife know) it's such a beautifully simple yet massively in depth / flexible game that I love it. Trouble is you find yourself having to buy more and more...
