Is this going on tonight? Don't think I fancy a boomer shooter at the moment but I'll try and be about for future sessions if this becomes a regular thing!

I'm up for it tonight, don't know if I'll have kids in bed by 8PM but I'll join as soon as I can if there are others up for it!

Yeah I'll be on the discord from about 8 so we can start from there with whoever shows up.

I think I've managed to get a dedicated Unreal Tournament 99 server set up, so we can get some games of that in future tailored to whatever we want. Just need some more real world testing. There's so many maps and modes, we could play it forever.

Quake Remastered

You'll be able to join on me in steam, or I can invite you directly so just jump in the discord when you're ready and I'll sort you out.
Anyone else interested in joining can add me on steam as well, it's just Cheeky Devlin.

Console players, make sure you have crossplay enabled both in the game settings and your console settings. You'll need to use a room code to join us. Again, join the discord and we'll let you know what the code is.
I had someone on switch having issues last week, so I can't guarantee it will work, but it should.

Was good to have you on man. Hopefully get you for longer next time. :D

Had some great games with Hypes, Jenuall and Jazzem, with Drummy popping up to shout abuse support from the sideline.

Was an absolute blast and even with the reduced numbers still loads of juicy frags.

Think we'll definitely try and get another game going for the same time next week.

Yep that was great, had a lot of fun trading rockets with you guys! Fun trying out some of the newer maps as well, a couple of them really started to click after a while!

I just bought Q1, Q2 and Q4 (not multiplayer AFAIK but it's supposed to be really good!) so I should be good to go on those titles. Dodged Q3A because I'm not spending £13 on a near-25 year old game if I can avoid it! I'll root around in the loft for my disc copy.

Nice.

Quake and Quake II are both classics and great games. We'll be playing these on and off for a bit I think.

Quake 4 is alright. It's a decent sequel to Quake II and has some great moments, but it's not quite as special.

Quake III is an odd one. I think it's basically been superceded by Quake Live at this point. But I'll figure something out if we want to do 3 at any point.

Got the GOG version of Unreal Tournament 99 updated with the latest fan patch from oldunreal.com. Only messed about with bots for a few rounds to try it out but it feels good man :datass:

That's the one I found an install of from my first pc which somehow still works. Such great memories, and iconic sounds too. HEADSHOT.

That's basically all you need for UT. I've been on it just playing practice rounds as well

Hey guys.

Just a bump to keep this on the page.

We'll be back on Wednesday night from 8pm with our last Quake Remastered session for now, so join in. We had a blast last week.
As before jump into discord and we'll go from there.

Next week I would like to play either Quake II Remastered, or Unreal Tournament 99.
If you guys have any preferences then lets decide!

For UT99 I have put together a RAR archive with the game and the necessary patches to get anyone who doesn't already have the game up and running.
Anyone who want's this pack, I would ask you to either request in the thread or send me a PM.

For QII Remastered it uses the official servers, so we do need the steam copy unfortunately. It was on sale last week, but is still quite reasonable at £7.99 normally.

I'm up for either when the time comes. I never did much Q2 multiplayer back in the day so am interested to see how that feels, but likewise UT is a classic so happy to go down that route as well

It's got more options and modes than Q1 as far as I can tell, but it plays quite similarly, being a sequel.

I think to keep the games running smoothly as things become established it might be best to stick to modern versions with the stability that brings, so I would say Q2. We could then get UT running and troubleshoot for a bit if needed. I don't think I ever actually played UT99 online back in the day because every time I did I'd have to download a new map or skin or whatever - it just never seemed to work!

Happy to do either though - I would need the UT RAR archive if that's okay.

Yeah I'm trying to keep it relatively simple.

Luckily UT is one of the easier one's I've found to get running.

The RAR I've got has the gog version and the patch. You just install the game, patch it and that's it ready to go.
UT99 is now basically run by the OldUnreal community at this point. Epic gave them the codebase so they've been maintaining and updating it since.

The downloading thing I quite liked. It meant that no matter what server I joined it would get me whatever maps they had in rotation as well as any mutators or mods it required.
As far as I know I'll only be using the vanilla maps initially, but there are thousands or good maps out there which I would like to explore at some point. Plus custom models in UT are great fun. Stomping around as a 40K Space Marine or Obi Wan Kenobi from PM is great fun.

I would like anyone who gets the archive (I've already sent it to a couple of people) to try it out when they can and give the various game modes and mutators a try. Obviously let me know if you have any issues joining online matches.
I'll be testing my UT99 MP server at some point this week (Probably Friday night), which will give us control over what we get to play and when, rather than some random public server. Though we can always use them if my server doesn't work out.

For UT99 newcomers, it has fantastic single player support, so you can play all the maps and modes against AI, either using the Single Player Tournament or by creating practice sessions (Single Player offline matches, I spent 99% of my offline UT time with this).

Oh and remember to check your control setup and character set up.

Personally I'd like to do UT next week and then do Quake 2 on the next rotation, but it's up to you guys as well if that suits. :D

Yeah assumed as much - I'm interested in how the weapon loadout plays - thinking the Railgun is going to be pretty popular!

Who's up for some games tonight then?
