Apparently Forest are signing Jamie Ward.

Please, Jamie, don't do it .

Can't fault him at all. We didn't offer him a new contract. I just don't think I could face seeing him pull on the Garibaldi red .

That goal he scored against Forest in the 10 men victory is my favourite goal of all time.

I was sorely tempted. I had an idea to stick some holidays in during early April after the Bournemouth and Watford defeats, as I felt we be stuck in the play offs and potentially get to the final (the top four had pulled away a bit by that point, though I thought Derby would be tough, and they would likely have been harder to beat than Brentford). But I didn't gamble in the end.

I actually looked at flights immediately after the match, for a week, and they weren't too bad. I think they were £401 return which is great considering it was a week and a half away.

I decided not to seriously think about it. Maybe, *maybe* I could have been an awkward twat and asked for the time off at short notice ( I could also have been an absolute dick and faked compassionate leave, but I never entertained that thought beyond the concept cropping up in my head).

Without sounding pessimistic, I first think we may get beat (though it's such a close run thing really and will likely come down to whoever performs best on the day), and I think it would be doubly-gutting to travel and lose. I have had a feeling since the first third of the season that it would end with Wembley heartache, though I admit I base this on nothing more concrete than being a dour realist.

Had it been a cup final, I may have come back. It sounds odd, given what is at stake is worth more financially than any match in world sport, but a trophy is more lasting. We could go up next week and be back in the Championship in 12 months, whereas due to our sparse trophy cabinet, silverware would live longer in the memory. I also missed the Carling Cup win due to a pre-booked holiday, and was on a trans-Altantic flight when everyone else witnessed history. I couldn't pass that up a second time.

I am still going to watch it on Now TV, but it just won't be the same. It won't even be the same as watching the finals in 97/98 with my family.

Ah well.

I can't see it happening, I think his wages would be above what we could offer.

It's almost a done deal. Ward on hol for 1 week and will sign upon his return. Apparently.

Saying that, someone else will probably Nick him.

Matt Mills is on the verge of signing for us too. Our FFP £10k limit isn't putting these guys off.

Wikipedia already has Forest listed as his current club!

strawberry float

Most people would say he is some way past his best, but I'm not convinced. Easily my favourite player over the last five years and he was the standout performer in a Derby shirt for quite some time.

I just watched a tribute video and started getting emotional :shifty:.

Fair enough, looks like it could be on, although I think FFP puts us in a perilous position until deals are 100% confirmed.

I've never understood why the media always reports that when players move between rival clubs that the new clubs' fans will need to be won over. In my experience, fans LOVE nicking their rival's star players. When Earnshaw and even Davies (the first time) joined Forest, we loved it and I'm sure the Derby fans relished prising away Kris Commons after our League 1 promotion. I have no idea where the perception that fans don't like players joining from their rivals comes from.

Depends massively on the club. When Celtic signed Kenny Miller he was never really welcomed by the fans, partially because he was ex-Rangers and partially because he was shite. :slol:

Can't say I'd be overly happy if we signed a Burnley player either, unless it was someone really good like Ings or Boyd or Trippier.

I think it depends on the player. Jamie Ward has been a Derby fans' favourite, he is well known for winding up Forest fans and he also used to have a habit of scoring against you, including that goal back in 2011(12?). Also, we are letting him go, so clearly the club doesn't value him anymore. If the tables were turned he would certainly have to win me over.

See, to me, that is reason enough to love the fact he is joining us! If it was a gooseberry fool Derby player, then I would be unimpressed.

I understand what you mean, but the key words were before that. A lot of fans, the more stupid ones, have been getting on his back for a while now. That, along with the fact he was let go out of choice without any talk of another team poaching him changes the entire dynamic, in my opinion.

I can't really recall what happened with Commons. I'm trying to remember how on Earth we managed to sign him. I vaguely remember one of my Forest friends going spare. Was it while you were in League One? He went on to be our best player by a mile and I'm pretty sure he went and did it again at Celtic! That was a clear case of it not being necessary to win us over.

We got promoted from league one and you came down from the prem. He decided to refuse a contract and sign for Derby instead, despite claiming he'd always been a Forest fan yada yada yada.

#FuckJaimeeWard

Despite not going to the final 3 home games of the season and having already renewed I still have no interest or enthusiasm for next season. Signing Jaime Ward only makes it worse.

Rumours circulating last night that McClaren has left Derby with Paul Clements in to replace him (though some of this is from John Percy).

Yeah I'm afraid Leam Richardson and Ian Foster have both just been announced. Sounds like we're (predictably) taking most of your backroom staff with Paul Cook.

Yep 3 of the backroom staff left earlier this week. Proper clear-out.

Saunders has endeared himself to the fans a fair bit already though, sacking off our old goalkeeping coach and bringing back the legend that is Mark "Big Norm" Crossley - a man I'm sure you'll be admirable of considering that he's part of the elite club of keepers to have scored with his goal coming against Southampton, not to mention being the only keeper to ever save a Le Tissier penalty!
