I disagree with people drinking alcohol in the screens, especially near young children and when their behavior is difficult for people to monitor.

Dublin Road dude?

Yup 8-) Yorkgate/Cityside as well 8-)

Nice 8-) My friend has a tendency to refer to Yorkgate as "Rapegate" :)

I usually go to YG, Dublin Road and the Odeon. My closest would probably be Downpatrick.

Greenwich Picturehouse?
The Odeon in Greenwich is strawberry floating awful. Not been to the O2 since they rebranded. Was decent enough when it was a Vue (?), though the projectionists had real problems last time I was there.

I used to be a cinema projectionist. When the film came in I would make it up and wait for the first film to finish and run it in an empty auditorium to check it for quality and if it had been made right by myself (reels in correct order etc).

Sometimes I would invite my pals along if it was a big release and if they were interested. I wish I still had that pretty shitty, under paid job just for the perks.

Watching scary films on your own in a huge cold auditorium was petrifying

Anyway I find it really hard to go to the cinema with other members of the public now after being spoilt for a couple of years.

My 10" iPad has a higher resolution than my 32" TV. I know which screen I'd rather watch movies on though. ;)

After disappointing 3D film after disappointing 3D film (more expensive, not 3D enough, with a softer, dimmer picture compared to 2D) I now deliberately go for the 2D versions of the film. I'll make an exception for The Hobbit as it's actually been filmed in 3D, but strawberry float this "2D film through some software to look 3D" it looks rubbish and too many people I know actually think the film was filmed using 3D cameras rather than just post-production software. It's very misleading saying "in 3D" if it's not filmed in 3D.

Not being one of you town folk it's weird thinking of only having a "local" cinema. I probably have around 12+ cinemas within 30 minutes of me, and 2 of which are within 10 minutes of me.

When I went to see The Avengers, I bought a ticket using the self purchase machines and selected the student ticket without actually being a student,

I can't remember the last time I brought in a drink or snacks with me, I'm too cheap to buy them in the cinema and too lazy to smuggle in better priced snacks. Plus after buying the largest drink size they offered and seeing Return of the King, I needed to piss soooo badly but didn't want to leave the film till after it was finished, put me off bringing drinks into the cinema for a good while!

TigaSefi wrote:Odeon in Wimbledon is spot on. It's nice and clean. Could be doing with being a tad cheaper. Cineworld in Wandsworth on the other hand is a festering cesspit of crap.....

I much prefer Cineworld Southside because Wimbledon Odeon make you select a seat. I hate cinemas which make you do that, it prevents me from turning up 30 minutes before a showing time and buying a ticket and knowing I'll be first into the cinema and will therefore get first choice of seats (I always go for the very back row, I hate people being behind me as you often get some ass who doesn't realise or doesn't care that they're kicking your chair). It encourages you to basically buy your tickets online (which often charge you a fee for buying online, WTF? I'm saving the cinema money by doing that!) a few days in advance which would be fine, if you could still get the Orange Wednesday code a few days early too, and if you're only going with 1 other person. But if there's a group going it's annoying buying X tickets on one debit card and then having someone drop out after committing to going then it's just more hassle than it's worth.

The best cinema nearby to me are the Waterloo IMAX and Westfields London (which has Imax screens too). The Westfields seats have sooo much leg room, you don't need to stand up to let people past. It's a shame they make you select a seat when buying the ticket. And the tickets cost loads too. And parking in Westfields car park is mega expensive too.

The indie cinema in Glasgow is fabulous. Small place so you're not in a huge crowd, and you don't get any of the riff raff. Beers and wine, and a decent selection of american candy. Mountain Dew. Hot chick in the bar who likes to wear short skirts and bend over far too much. Special screenings like the Die Hard Quadrilogy at Christmas and Bullitt/Drive last weekend.

Only gripe would be that at late night shows, in quiet bits of the film you'll hear the noise of the bar upstairs. But the bar is pretty fantastic too.

Heard good things about the Everyman Cinema, though their tickets are quite pricy (even by London standards).

The next time I'll visit the cinema will be in Bristol to watch The Hobbit with my dad. I think we went to Cribbs last time for Return of the King and as a cinema it wasn't too bad at all, at least compared to the one here. Hope it hasn't gone downhill.

Love going to cinema but hate dickheads texting during the film which is even worse now that people have smartphones. Also people who can't seem to sit properly and have to kick the back of my chair.

Always go for a 2D film - usually plenty of choice at Cineworld.
Don't personally have a problem/need to go to the toilet in the middle of a film.

I feel a bit restrained when I watch a film at the cinema, because when I watch a film at home I like to be able to express my surprise at events unfolding in the film, or express boredom, anger, bemusement, disbelief, amazement. It's like not being able to fully enjoy the moment if you can't express your enjoyment.

For deaf people the cinema is a real pain. Subtitled screenings tend to be on at terrible times and on the worst and smallest screens. Sony are trialling subtitle glasses which will be a big help if they work well.

The best chain cinema I have been to is easily the Showcase Cinema Deluxe. The lobbies are nice, clean and inviting places, the screens and seating are fantastic, the staff are reasonably attentive and because the prices are ever so slightly higher (still less than a £1 per ticket more than the competition) it keeps out the people who are more interested in talking/texting than watching the film. Whenever I go back to Leicester I pretty much live at the cinema and I've never seen or heard any disruption from the audience which is practically unheard of for a big city centre cinema. Plus, they have director's lounges where for a few extra quid per ticket you get access to a private bar and screen where staff bring you food and drink etc. So the cinema is able to cater for all types of audience under one roof.

Cinema DeLuxe. Shame the only times I go there now are when I meet up with this twat who lives in Scotland. He thinks he's some sort of film buff

Great cinema, and I echo Triple B's sentiments. That, along with Cineworld/AMC in Brum are the only cinemas I really go to. The odd showing at Vue if the film isn't showing anywhere else, but that's about it. Odeon can piss off with it's shitty legroom

I went to the cinema for the first time in ages and I thought it was pretty good. No one was making any noise, the seats and leg-room were great and the screen wasn't at too much of an angle. £9 a ticket is bit of a joke though I think, and the prices of the food and drink. Oh and I just can't deal with 3D it seems, had a massive headache after watching the Avengers. Most the film the 3D made strawberry float all difference. It was only when things started coming out of the screens like missiles did I start thinking 'wow, these effects are brilliant'.

They're also in the best rows, unfortunately, but in terms of comfort I actually prefer the regular seats.

I love the cinema. Some films are made to be seen on a big screen.

It can be expensive but me and the girlfriend tend to only go on Wednesdays. 241 tickets and 241 pizzas at pizza express, you get dinner and the film for £20 between you. Great value 8-)

I know it's cool to hate on 3D too, but I think it's brilliant.
