Well the comments I posted don’t really fit with what you are saying there. The comments were all anti-evolution or anti-immigration (is there anything they can’t link to immagrunts?) or amusing.

I am no expert on evolutionary theory, but I think you are right to say that we can’t really judge if a significant evolutionary change has taken place, but I don’t think the scientists were saying that. Their hypothesis was that caesarean births are contributing towards the future evolution of humanity as babies and mothers that would have died are now surviving and passing on their genes. So while humanity as a whole hasn’t yet evolved into a species with a smaller pelvis, in the future the trend may move towards that as those genes are passed on.

I am not sure it is an unlikely occurrence, it would make sense (to me!) that as more and more women and children are saved by caesarean that (in the cases of a small pelvis) those genes will be passed on and spread amongst humanity. Of course we cannot say that for definite at the moment but it would seem to make sense that it would happen.

Having said that there are many reasons for the use of a caesarean that have nothing at all to do with the size of a woman’s pelvis. My own son was born by caesarean but that was to do with the placenta falling away too early and nothing to do with genetics. Not all of the extra caesarean births are going to impact on childbirth in human evolution.

Either way, it’s nothing to do with God’s perfect plan for us all.
