Minimum alcohol pricing.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-41981909

Most farming children start drinking beer from the age of twelve. Their parents think this is normal because they started drinking from the age of twelve as well. Local country pubs are very flexible as to their hours and age of customers. Drinking in the pub all night is normal on a Friday, the country wives expecting husbands home at dawn

Old traditions are passed down parents to children

God. Is there nothing the SNP won't do to control people's own business? Now I'm told by the SNP state what I can and cannot drink.
Jesus wept. Scotland is becoming like North Korea

This will have little to no effect, never has for smoking. But Scotland seems to think this is the way forward today, rather than education and improving people's lives and outlook thus giving them reason not to obliterate their days with booze.

I grew up in a housing estate in Belfast, i have seen gangsters/hoods going door to door selling "vodka" in Fanta bottles.

Glasgow hoods and gangsters will get rich on the Nats silly attempts at controlling peoples lives.

Education is required not price controls!!

re 343 'so the sensible people are going to have to pay for the stupidity of others'.

Truly sensible people do not drink alcohol. Why waste money on a product that damages your body, numbs brain cells and basically makes you rather boring when you could do so much else with it.

Time for this country to face up to its alcohol problem instead of making itself feel good by hammering smokers.

Brexit is happening and now our cours are overruling the EU! WE WERE RIGHT TO VOTE OUT!

unfortunately this will probably drive those with drink problems, and on low incomes, to criminal activities to support their addiction.Time will tell

I would hope that the Tories would follow suit, but as we know

THEY HAVE BEEN BOUGHT OFF BY THE BIG DRINK COMPANIES AND TESCOS (who secretly serve halal meat).

I was reading an article on the Tesco Christmas advert and this is one of the criticisms of it.

Gonna be honest, I don't even know what halal meat is at this point.

Edit - reading up on this. What's the issue here?

Halal meat. I mean judging by Tescos, the only difference in preparation between normal and halal met is that there's a blessing performed on the latter.

I may have picked that up wrong.

I think the animal can't be stunned, so there's an animal welfare issue if that's true. Obviously all natural predators and organic farmers Eskimo kiss animals to death nowadays, so there has to be a middle ground...

The real problem with criticising Halal food is usually the people doing the criticising, as they often (not always) sandwich it between pretty repugnant bigotry. Ditto criticism of women's role in Islam. Two fairly enlightened points of argument absolutely bastardised.

Most halal meat is stunned before slaughter (84% https://www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaign/slaughter ). There is barely any difference between halal and non-halal.

Some of it isn't stunned and some Islamic sects don't believe in stunning. I have no idea how you can tell if the halal meat was stunned or not.

Parents asked for £1 a day to pay for school stationary.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-42008669

If Labour had got into power and added 20% to the cost of private education, state schools would also have had to cope with a sudden influx of kids due to parents no longer being able to afford private school fees, so Labour and Tories are as bad as each other. Problem is that currently there's no credible alternative.

How much is this headteacher on? I'm betting it's a six figure salary, and I also bet he went into teaching for the 'kids' and stayed for the sense of 'fulfilment'!

Charlatans everywhere!

I don't necessarily believe this. It's just a story Labour and the left can utilise to clobber the government with.

I've worked in Education and the waste is phenomenal in schools. Not to mention Headteachers are now on vastly inflated six figure wages. A little restraint on pay at the top would go much further.

They should divert the £1 to pay for the referendum divorce bill.

Maybe they can't afford to buy pens as they're now expected to make additional contributions to teachers pension pots. Maybe the teachers who always put the kids first should think about that - after all, they're probably earning, in a lot of cases, more than the parents!

In reality what we have here is a Lefty Head teacher who has been approached by Labour central office and asked "Can you help us embarrass May".

How very convenient to Labour that this school just happens to be in the PM’s constituency! Also a very convenient quote from ‘a parent’. It stinks of yet another Labour set up. What about the Headmaster? Is he on £100k a year? Is he a Labour supporter? What left wing teachers union is he a member of? As usual the Beeb are very selective in their reporting. More facts please. No credibility Beeb!

My partner is a secondary school maths teacher and she regularly buys pens with her own money to hand to kids who don't bring their own. You might say if they don't have a pen they miss out - but then they don't do the work and end up disrupting the whole class (as well as making her performance look bad when it comes to review time).

Wait... this is news? I thought schools have been asking parents for voluntary donations for decades.

Anyway, why shouldn't parents be encouraged to contribute towards their children's education? I'm sure £190 per year is not beyond the reach of most people living in Maidenhead. The hard-working taxpayer shouldn't need to pay for everything, should they?

"So you personally know for a fact how much money they have been given and have proof it was enough but they have spent it poorly? No consideration that the amount they have been given is not enough for the job they are being asked to do then huh?"

Yes. I'm at Huxlow, Wellingborough - it's the same. Massive waste, bureaucracy, socialist thinking, ballooning salaries - a bit like the EU.

667. Alison

"When I went to school we had to take our own crayons, pencils and pens once we were at school"

Sorry Alison but we can't have the poor feeling left out or inferior because they have standard pencils while your kids have shiny new ones, we all have to dumb down to the lowest and cheapest nowadays.

Glitter (no not that one) banned from nursery.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-42023245

Come on, whoever wrote that headline knew where it was going.

Oh; Come on!!

Come on
Come on Come on
Come on come on come on!

heheh!

Why don't we just ban Xmas. Lets ban crackers .. too much noise. Lets ban Father Xmas .. suspicious male and he wears red. Let's ban Xmas cards. Kills too many trees.

Lets just ban everything ....

What a plod decision. Lets ban children surely they will cause all the problems of the future

Wouldn't it be possible to wash the glitter off in a bucket of water and then e.g. filter it or leave it outside for the water to evaporate?? Otherwise, before you know it you've banned everything for one reason or another.

A lot of bleating about damage to sea life, but so what it’s only fishes and slimy slop creatures.
That episode of the inbetweeners, where that kid punches a fish to death: that’s what we should all be doing, to show these loony lefty, remoaner, champagne socialist whale savers what we think of their so-called sea life

Amazing glitter thing is a good idea but point out the environmental dangers of nuclear power, cars and hairspray and liberals start to panic. Liberals are for banning anything that doesn't impact on their consumer middle class lifestyle like glitter. Dare mention though the environmental damage of their globalist lifestyle and they become very indignant and more Conservative than Thatcher.

Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban Ban

Good. Now ban the brats who go there .

So the babies are made to feel bad about making Christmas cards while mummy and daddy get away with Fracking (Shale Gas Extraction) and leaving dog gooseberry fool all over the place. And people like me that should be doing something more positive can still find time to make sarcastic comments and insults under silly stories by the bbc on its poll tax platform?

Ignorance is bliss, so the saying goes

So why isn't the UK the most blissfully happy nation on earth?

Afterall, judging by any HYS about science or the environment, around a third of people, should be ecstatically happy, they're so ignorant of evidence

...and why does Trump always appear so angry, he must be amongst the most ignorant people on earth?

This is the kind of article that makes me want to go out, buy about 5kg of glitter, come home and flush the lot of it down the kitchen sink.

Thankfully I had my childhood back in the late 60s, early 70s and we did all the things that are now considered dangerous. That was called having a childhood. Not sitting at home running your life on facebook and inviting the lads around for a game playing session.

This is why today's generation are clueless with practical things like levers, ropes, weights and everything else. All those things we learnt out in the real world by actually building things like camps and rope swings in dangerous places.

The most typical grumpy British thing I've read in a long time.

Uber concealed data breach.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42075306

i really couldnt care less... first world problems ... money bla computer hack bla corporate governance bla... this is the world of the internet, wake up, its like putting all your wares and money in a shop window and giving the key to someone you dont know... simples, if u dont want this cr*p then do nothing online & delete all yr social media... too tough for most of u so just put up with it

From May, under the GDPR, Uber would have to notify both the regulator & all persons affected within 72hrs if the data isn't encrypted.

The GDPR is one of the few good pieces of legislation to arise from the EU for UK citizens in the past 25 years, unlike most of the rest of it from its 5 unelected presidents, MEPs who can't initiate legislation, & its court that overrides national parliaments.

company tries to make profit shock... company tries to cover up mistake shock... someone hacks someone else shock... wheres the surprise? why the outrage? it happens everywhere.. jeeeez where have all you people been living??? La-La Enid Blyton-Land? ps and nothing will come of it and they will all live happily counting their money ever after..

Sex offenders on remand in Rotherham, Rochdale etc are dependent on Uber, they must be very anxious.

BOTHERED?

this story reminds me of the BBC when they concealed a huge anti Brexit demonstration in Manchester outside the Tory party conference

the whole place was littered with press and media

there was 50,000 people demonstrating but if nobody report's it

IT NEVER HAPPENED

it's a bit like Uber
if nobody had reported it it would

NEVER HAPPENED
today's world of controlling news

Names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers. Wow. People share that information all over the web at the drop of a hat anyway (stupid people do, anyway). Do people really think that this information is private? Basically, they've given away the phone book.

Black cab drivers are professional, know thee way, use bus lanes and are great to chat to. Of course if you speak arabic or Afghani and don't mind the conversation being about your GPS directions being wrong, good luck..
