Oh, this thread is gold.

So we are basing our judgement on what sport is by whether it uses a war skill.

Here's a war skill, soldiers torturing civilians. Britain Gold, USA Silver

A Corbynista writes...

I also love this one:
I'm afraid I can't watch it - I'm very happy for them - they've gotten very good at cycling round and round a track very fast - but wish it could be left at a medal.

In my life I've had depression, pneumonia, cancer and throughout all of it I've held down a full time job and supported myself and now my wife and kids - where's my medal? - or all the other people who battle through life?

Love that one too. Some of these comments are amazing. Might pull up some from the Guardian when I have time, the never ending circle jerk for Corbyn normally brings up some gems.

The US is going to "hand over" the naming system for the internet.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37114313

This is obviously a right wing conspiracy to ensure that racial inequality is further entrenched in British society.

BooHoo diddums.

#usualvictimmentality

Handing over DNS?!
US never owned it in the first place.

Furthermore, if memory serves, a British scientist at CERN invented the much touted World Wide Web back in the 1980's.
Here we are, flapping our lips over something we no longer can control. Hackers are everywhere, no surprise, they're code addicts( pun intended).
Good HYS Dave, thanks.
Thor

First of all CERN first invented the "internet", not Al Gore or whomever.
Since CERN had no patent policy at the time, US jumped on it & made it its own creation, military applications at first.

US does nothing voluntarily, and no one can control the Net anymore.
Use it as you see fit, but be aware that you are "connected", like it or not.

Thor

"concerns over human rights abuses"

Um, pot-kettle-black - seen the layers of censorship we have on our internet access and the amount of tracking that goes on?

Just don't let the 'so-called' BBC get involved with issuing addresses...there'd be so much PC red tape in the way that nothing would ever get done. Have you seen the headlines today? The front page is awash with PC nonsense.

Why is the US giving this up? At least the US govt tried to stop the porn .xxx domain. The rest of the world love it. The hypocrite Middle East uses it the most while denying and decrying it the most. Europe will be its biggest promoter and it will be added to their LGBT promotions. Everyone loves to ridicule the US, but they are still the best of the lot. Not Europe, Russia, China or the rest.

Dear BBC

I don't know anything about this story but you can bet I'll somehow link it to the BBC being "PC". I will also randomly throw in commies and lefties, complain about the TV licence and other things my taxes are being wasted on. Because when you reach the age of 55 and have a lot of pent up resentment inspired by the Sun/Daily Mail there's nothing like HYS

Back to sports news, commenters react to news that Joe Hart might be leaving Manchester City.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37106090

mabybe Hart shud b using dat German shampoo Alpecin [wth addad Caffeine] insted of centureies old HED & shulders it maybmake a difference 2 his game odawiase he shud go 2 #AVFC we gta kik out dinisoaur brad guzman

We haven't had a great keeper since Gordon Banks.

Ray Clemence, Peter Shilton, these guys were ok but not the very best. And since the 80's our keepers have looked either terrified of the pressure or are error prone at the wrong moment

We need a Peter Schmeichel type of figure.

However will this ever happen if major clubs continue the trend of using foreign players by default?

Hopefully Liverpool can sign him up and we can finally bring the glory days back to Anfield and another much deserved title. Joe will add the finishing touches to IMO the best outfield starting line-up in the premier league #4-3inyacupfinal #Klopp4President #YNWA #NewEra #FearUs.

Is this really an HYS based on rumour and gossip, without any quote or evidence?

Trolling based on gossip is a new low, even for the compliant BBC. Have the Salford overlords have directed a troublemaking article to mask the successful match last night?

Can't wait to hear what the looney left, bremainophile, hand wringing PC brigade have to say about this.

Maybe Joe Hart should be using the German shampoo brand Alpecin (which has added caffeine) instead of the very old brand of shampoo known as Head & Shoulders. It might make a difference to his game, otherwise he should go to Aston Villa. We have to kick out the dinosaur Brad Guzman.

I don't know who Brad Guzman is, but Brad Guzan left Villa weeks ago. The big dinisoaur.

Loving this thread by the way.

Bremainophile :dread:

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Finally (for now), let's see what the commenters think of Ford's announcement of a self driving car coming in 2021.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37103159

I have visions of hundreds of stranded motorists staring at a small screen that says, over and over, "Please wait, calculating route".

Computers in any form have never been reliable, not even this Win10 up-to-date laptop I am typing on.
It has just underlined my script in red, for no apparent reason.
There are going to be a lot of stranded motorists with no hope of understan ding why.

2021 is only 5 yrs from now.
I have visions of cars in some Megalopolis, as pictured in the film
" The 5th Element".
Nothing against Ford, we own 2 of them, 3/4 ton trucks, well over 20 yrs old.
No, we're nowhere near a city, but what disturbs me is the " money put towards neuroscience research".
Get a neurons implant Ford, & stick to mechanical engineering improvements.

No doubt they'll have killswitches controlled by the authorities so they'll be able to effectively ban travel as well as communication for entire swathes of the population at a whim. We're sleepwalking into a society where we will have lost even the modicum of self determination we currently have.

Business Logic:

Ford 1. Our cars using fossil fuels is killing the world and the people on it.

Ford 2. Should we change this?

Ford 1. No that would hit profits, make a car that doesn't need humans so we can still sell once humanity is extinct.

If this really works then ford should offer insurance at about £2.50 a year because it is never going to crash !!

IF THEU DO NOT THEN IT WILL SHOW HOW MUCH REAL FAITH THEY HAVE IN IT !!!!!!!!!

self driving cars?

NO TA.

TV presenter Charlie Webster is in a coma in Brazil (she's since awoken thankfully). Naturally Fox News readers are all sympathy...

The jokes on that guy as most of the UK has gone over to tidy tips now so technically we aren't a dump any longer.

From the BBC article on parents allowing their kids some alcohol at home

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37129850

The French have done this for generations. They seem to be more responsible than us Brits with no larger lout culture to speak of.

If there's anything worse than a lout, it is one that is large.

Because they are irresponsible drunks without common sense. They don't stop to think about the deleterious effects of alcohol on the developing brain of a child. Perhaps this is a contributing factor to autism and lower IQ.

Why are the children hanging out with their Parents watching them drink? They should be out with their mates being kids, not at home! There's plenty of opportunity for that when they are in their 30's and cant get a home of their own.

The answer is for a government that cares about the welfare of its people to bring in a program of selective breeding, whereby only responsible citizens are allowed to procreate.

This, along with sending migrants home, would go some way to curing Britain's overpopulation problem.

most people can and do drink sensibly. leave us alone

sadly we are in an age of mass liberal hysteria where culture and identity are slowly being leeched away to satisfy every minority or ism

This? Really? Nothing more pressing? OK.

As a treat in moderation, giving kids alcohol is vital to remove it's power as an alluring and taboo thing and will greatly reduce the chances of them abusing alcohol in the future.

Now watch as the totalitarian helicopter moms jump up and down and clutch their pearls.

A major bone of contention is that only certain stories get a HYS, leading to many conspiracy theories about why others were not...

I read these during my lunch at work sometimes, they sap my will to live.

With the success of the Jamaican and USA in athletics how much responsibility for this success is attributed to the slave trade ?

Shame we can't cull and replace most of the faithless jackasses at Westminster with teamGB organisers and athletes. People who believe in Britain and British resolve. We are held back by those who see no further than the EU.

Posted by sorrysorrysorry.....Right, time to sum up the total number of medals by countries

1) EU >170
---
170 medals divided by 27 member countries = 6.296 medals each. Not so much to be smug about when you look at it that way is it?

I can't do any more...

Another night of success for Team GB, the commenters must be ecstatically happy...

http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/37145779

Mo Farah is a Somalian and i do think its unfair on Somalia he doesnt run for them

Nothing against the man personally
but I find it weird why British people pretend he is one of their own. Especially as he lives in America

how is a short kayak sprint a proper sport?

Seriously are they making these sports up as they go along now?

and Nicola won a poor competition. She was the only serious boxer in it. not very prestigious when theres no competition. Mens boxing is taken more seriously

these olympics have been the perfect opportunity for the mediocre to win some medals but they arent top class sports

I can't imagine Nicola Adams has many GCSEs

Gold Medal for boxing
Gold medal for stupidity

My dog is smarter than her

Mohamed Muktar Jama Farah (Mo)..... is as about as British as Zola Budd.

Surely he will get a knighthood.

Oh well good luck to him lol.

He's a Somalian and nothing will change that no matter what country he adopted or what flag he has draped on his back when celebrating. If he were a Brit he would be born in the UK and then i would have no problem with him. At least Boris is a Brit.

China is putting relentless pressure on the Brits, the Chinese still have a say in things yet, will see if the Brits have ran out of steam.
