Finally had the time to watch Jirard's video and his indignant tone towards the end really wound me up

I already stopped watching his channel as he was leaning heavy into sponsor segments and his shouty presence was starting to grate so buh bye.

Aren't all YouTubers shouty though? Honestly can't stand any of these YT personalities and I'm not surprised when any of them turn out to be arseholes.

Threatening to sue is funny.

Also funny that the dude responded to him with an hour long video ( :x ) when he should have shut the strawberry float up and lawyered himself up.

Well, Karl Jobst has gone for the jugular.

Jirard is clearly some kind of narcissist who thinks he's a good guy. But the evidence presented below and multiple instances of saying he's working with X, Y & Z charity whilst he patently wasn't, makes him the polar opposite of a good guy.

There are some I genuinely like. As someone who has always wanted to visit Japan, I greatly enjoy the Abroad In Japan channel. He seems to avoid all the worst excesses that many of the others are guilty of, and apart from having to use the usual thumbnails and clickbait titles to keep the YouTube algorithm happy, he doesn't really play the game at all - sometimes there's no videos for a couple of months, rather than putting out something devoid of content weekly just to keep the "engagement" up.

My mate works as an editor for Abroad in Japan. It's a great channel, Chris has a very engaging personality. Seems extremely smart about how he goes about things as well.

Doesn't change the quality of the actual videos though. A lot of hard work goes into it and it does very well.

I really like Chris as well - the clickbait unfortunately is what you need to do on YouTube these days to get recommended to people. It's strawberry floating stupid.

Getting completely sidetracked, but the Abroad in Japan channel is alright innit.

Not sure if those thumbnails show it has fallen a bit into a common pitfalls of those Japan-based ones (which often lean too much into the "lol quirky Japan" or "let's see what X is like...BUT IN JAPAN! ). I did like it back when it was a sardonic, humourous reflection on his days teaching English in Japan, as that mirrored my early days over there quite a lot.

As a similarly sarcastic, deadpan, pessimistic English man in his 20s, stuck teaching English in a random country town, I was very jealous he managed to monetise all the stuff that was going through my head on a daily basis.

I have a friend who knows Chris and I am relieved to know he isn't just a YouTube Twat either. Glad he's done well.

Good summary video of where it all is now.

The tide is turning against him, also mods have been nuking threads on his subreddit and that's causing a lot of drama.

I expect a few companies like Shovel Knight developer to start cutting ties soon as no one wants to be associated with something that looks so bad.

Wish my image sig would work
