Had a quick go in the PC closed beta. It starts out with a totally scripted prologue, during which you get a couple of cars that handle like greased pigs. Plot is blah, driving thus far is borderline bad (we're talking sub-Grid 2 here). The preload system is neat, although not particularly well implemented for PC (where's the quit option when I reach the end of the prologue?)

Technically, I can't really say since my PC is arse, but it runs decently outside of cutscenes for me (with everything in low and at 720p, oh joy). Still runs better than Driver San Fransisco ever did for me, mind.

Ultimately, is it worth £40? My initial impressions are "no", but I'll give it another go tomorrow when everything has installed.

Please do, because I was fairly excited by this. The idea of driving across a convincing USA really appealed to me, but it sounds like the mechanics of the game aren't much.

I got a beta key and tried to download it. After installing UPlay my password didn't work so I tried to reset it. Apparently the form has expired so I made another password reset request. I repeated this more times than I'm happy to admit. UPlay :fp:

I'm the same, there sounds like there could be so many potential issues or problems with this, but a Test Drive Unlimited style game set in a replica of the USA is something that I really, really want to play and I'll inevitably become part of the problem by buying it despite all the knocks against it.

Further impressions: the Nissan I picked handles far better. The driving model is still very meh, though. As for the gameplay itself, it seems to be mainly missions (mostly of the "win the race" variety, although I've had a Burnout 2-esque "ram the other guy" which unfortunately ended as soon as I landed a good T-bone on 'em) with a variety of distractions on the open map (I've seen a "drive round these poles" one and a long jump one). Plot is still very much someone writing bad Fast & Furious fanfiction, but thankfully the cut scenes are skippable. There's a lot of cut scenes.

Oh, and it's online only so you get kicked if there's any connection issues, and the matchmaker seems a bit duff since it didn't add anyone to my game today. Plus they haven't added any way to invite your friends or restrict your game to friends only yet.

Ultimately, thus far it's been very :| and I haven't seen anything to make me want to reach out my wallet.

Got my PS4 beta code. Now I just need to pull myself away from Destiny and Sunset Overdrive long enough to play it. I'm not sure that's going to happen.

I have a PS4 code. Installed it, played a little. Seems like any other racing game. I drive about badly, and crash a lot.

I finally got my key and got it downloaded.

Played all the way to where you get your garage. Now I'm stuck while it finishes downloading the rest of the game, which it's doing at a snails pace.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was either going at a proper speed (16.23Gb shouldn't take THAT long) or it at least made you aware that it was still downloading when you start it up. I had no idea that the game wasn't finished installing when I started it. :fp:

From what I played though it seems alright though and I'd like to get back into actually playing it. I'm planning on a cross-country drive to San Francisco and back. :D

I'm liking this a lot so far. Travelled all the way from East Coast to West Coast, took a long ass time to get there but loved how each state was different.

Couldn't find Minnesota though, wanted to cruise in my old home town.
