Would you say "I can see my house from here" as you went past your old place?

Stuck a couple of hours into this tonight on PS4.
So much time and effort has obviously gone into this to provide features and content galore, but so far I've found it about as exciting as those tailing missions from GTA.
There's very little sense of speed and the handling is rather gooseberry fool.
Most amusing is the shoe-horning of the staple Ubi 'radio mast'/viewpoint feature. I often find that my GPS doesn't find places of interest unless I drive up to to a nearby satellite installation first. Oh yes, definitely. :?
So far though, the game just makes me feel fatigued already. I've posted on here before about my tendency to suddenly 'drop off' from games like GTA, AssCreed, Skyrim etc - not because they're bad games but I reach a point where the sheer amount of things to do (most of which reward marginal rewards at best) and the amount of travelling to do them make me mentally knackered. This game has achieved that in record time as soon as Detriot's mini-map was displayed.
'Stickers'!? As if I give a strawberry float about putting stickers on my car. I tell you, when I'm in a tight race with someone, I'm thinking about how fast I can afford to take a corner; whether it's worth facing oncoming traffic to get an advantage; is that risky short-cut worth it at this point in the race? The last thing I'm thinking is "Ooooohhhh. I quite like that decoration that guy who's beating me has got on his rear bumper".
Content for content's sake. The Crew is full of it. I just did a mission where the woman who got me out of jail just made me race her to prove I was up to it. If you're that good, why not do this yourself? The plot proceeds to give some kind of explanation, I think. Still bollocks. You made the effort to get me out of jail for this, so why not just trust me and scrap a couple of weeks of dev time on a pointless mission?
Anyway, I think I might be a bit pissed and cross, so I'll stop beating this up now on here and play something else.

I've played a couple of hours as well.

I'm enjoying it enough, but it's not blowing me away.

Did a cross-country drive from Detroit to San-Francisco, then from SF to the Florida Keys. Both trips took about 35 minutes and took me through completely different parts of the country.

There has been a lot of attention paid to making each "State" feel different from the previous ones, and there are some interesting locations to discover. My personal favourite was the Tucson Aircraft Graveyard. So it's nice to see them adding in places like that you can just come across as you race/drive about.

Sent out to die. Ubisoft didn't even send out review copies.

They did, they just sent them out deliberately late and have also reiterated to people not to judge the game on early review. They are just hoping people will buy without waiting for a review.

The beta was atrocious, felt like a PS3 launch game.

So I buckled and got this from Nuuvem for £25 or so, and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Pretty solid 60fps with most stuff on ultra/high, the odd random sideways screen shake, but I'll put the vsync on the gpu so that should help.

Handling is arcadey as hell, but it works well enough. Is there a way to turn off the automatic head turning? That gooseberry fool gets annoying very quickly. Other than that, there's loads of...stuff to do and the size of the map is pretty damn impressive. The core story is fast and furious-level car gangs, undercover cops etc, but it sort-of works if you kind of tune that gooseberry fool out and just hoon about the place doing stuff.

Radio selection seems a bit limited, currently got the classical station on, but might put my own stuff on in the background once that gets boring.

The Crew must have one of the worst 'Collectors Editions' that I've seen in videogames.

Game does a 'Limited Edition' that has a few bits of car DLC. Fair enough. It costs £50.

Image

Then they also do a 'Limited Edition Pitstop Pack'. This has the same DLC as the previous edition, but adds a flask and a 4Gb USB stick. It costs £75. That's an extra twenty-five notes for a crappy-looking plastic flask and a small USB stick that you'll never use. (Reasonably) hilariously, the reverse side of the USB stick carries a 'do not throw in bin' image that stands out more than the actual 'The Crew' logo :slol:. All for an extra TWENTY-FIVE QUID :slol: . :fp: .

I played an hour of this on Monday night. First impressions were terrible.

Game loaded, started and displayed the HUD but not the game. A black screen with a HUD :fp:

It was fine on the restart...didn't look much better though. This might be the first dud I've bought in years but I'll have to play more first.

Are we playing the same game? Apart from a few moments where the game slowed down for a bit - i guess latency or streaming in new areas - its been fine. Other people show up in the world, everything moves at a decent pace, mostly 60fps all the way.

Sure if you stop and look at the world close up its a bit bare and basic, but some sacrifices are necessary for a world this massive and completely open. I have eaten most of my words about the crew; its enjoyable just going around doing stuff. The little challenges everywhere are fun distractions while going from a to b, and i've only seen a small fraction of the world. I've had to admit recently that i don't have the patience or skill for hardcore sim racing, and this is well within my simcade comfort zone.

As nobody else is playing this on PC here, might have to look elsewhere for a crew for social stuff.

I played this for an hour or so last night and it's a bit of a shocker. The car handling, what the dick is that supposed to be? Where's the weight, the feeling of speed? And those graphics
Load of old gooseberry fool.

Are ubisoft just gradually getting more and more gooseberry fool. I'm worried for rayman now, they better not ruin that IP.

Nice one, my uplay name's trellero.

I buckled and got the season pass today too :fp: I really don't get what the problem with this is, graphically it looks fine, runs well and there is a definite difference between the cars in terms of weight and handling. The 370z is fairly oversteery while the Dodge truck is a hefty behemoth of a thing.
